Intimidation

"Not only have these employees illegally gone on strike, they've actually started acts of intimidation against members who have been trying to go to work."

There were reports of workers barricading hospital entrances, blocking ambulances and food supplies, of geysers being switched off and patients left without food.

"We believe that we cannot sit and watch while that kind of anarchy takes place."

Mseleku said that in Pietermaritzburg's Northdale hospital there had been reports of 10 deaths and, even if these were not attributable to the strike, the patients had not been accorded dignity after their deaths.

Who remembers the Hippocratic oath? Exchanged for the Hipocrytic attitude?
Wonder how many of these health workers would want to be treated in the same way?
 
Not sure what the answer to this dilemma is because striking endangers people's lives but by the same token how do they get their message across. If it works I think they should strike over their lunch break but not sure if govt will take them seriously if they do it.
 
imho every time there is a national strike the top union and government delegates have effectively committed a gross injustice to the South African public at large and they should be 'fired' immediately for failing to find an amicable solution to the impasse.

I have no sympathy for either party in this posturing exercise.
Salaries should be performance based and if that were the case there would be, in most cases, grounds for reductions, not increases.
 
Why is it so hard to ENFORCE law in SA?

These workers are not allowed to strike, they have other avenues to follow if they have gripes with their pay. So, if they go on strike they must get fired, just as the department said they should and if they prevent skeleton staff from doing the job then they should get ARRESTED, simple as that.

Acting like a bunch of baboons is all too common I understand that, so why can't they just learn, violence doesn't help.

The thread is about the intimidation of people who can't afford to lose a day's pay...
 
Actions such as those described in the article should be grounds for immediate arrest and no less than 5 years in prison. End of story.
 
EXACTLY - thanks for putting it so simply Icyrus. Law should remain law and crime should be seen as such - grievance or none. We can all think of reasons to do someone else in, but we can never condone doing it with that reasoning.
