One of my friends applied for adsl about 2 weeks ago and telkom recently informed him that no ports are available on his exchange. According to telkom it could take as long as 5 months for new ports to become available. But what gets me is that they refuse to upgrade the exchange until they get more adsl applications. Its not like they have to rebuild the exchange to allocate a few extra ports, and any upgrades they make will benefit them late on, not so. They simply don't care!! Just for interest sake i would like to know what they would have to do to allocate a few extra ports. My friend lives in Pretoria, so its not like there are only 5 people who would this service. This seems like bad customer service if you ask me!!

not too sure, maybe make the box bigger?
From what the techies tell me, the box has these slots or ports which they slot in a card or something which activates our line for adsl...and its these cards/ports whatevers that determine the speed of your connection.

Now if the ports/slots whatevers are fully used, u either gotta wait til one of the okies cancel their line or they build another dslam?
And obviously they wouldnt wanna rebuild a whole another dslam in that area for just one extra client, so either they wait for a cancellation...or wait til there's enough demands in that area...

Basically they doing the business centric way and not the customer centric way...its what most businesses are like...but they did introduce wimax, one of the reason for this purpose, so hope ur friend's got coverage :p

Eish!

 Feels like living in a third world country!

Telkom wont give my buddy a line and theres just no where else to go, sad!
He needs a line for online gaming and wireless is just not going to cut it.

Any news on neotels offerings?

I stays in Dunkeld JHB, applied ADSL (existing phone line) at beginning of July, waited for several weeks, called in and was told their Rosebank exchanging is undergoing upgrade, will be ready some time in August, (later also confirmed this with one of the telkom technician), towards end of August, got a letter from telkom confirm their exchang is running at full capacity and will need to wait for future upgrade......Now I got WIFI

I've got a better one :) I've just moved to a new house - 300m down the road.
30 days ago I applied for the line to be moved on the 1st. Phone them up yesterday...um....now they tell me there's no ports! I quickly had to correct them - its on the same exchange! They're gonna get back to me....
