The Windows Vista thread

Dislikes: None

I use vista for work and play, it is rock solid stable for me and has yet to let me down.
 
Like: No comment to give

Dislike: That I'd have to pay to get it

Im much more interested in Windows Home Server and would pay for it...
 
Vista is not worth the upgrade from XP. It is a resource hog that does not provide enough improvements to warrant the change. I have been using Vista for four months now.

Software and driver issues abound. IE7 crashes frequently.

It has some nice improvements, but again, nothing that warrants an upgrade from a stable XP SP2 installation.
 
Likes - nothing really yet

Dislikes - Ugly, UAP, lack of working drivers, update function overwrites working drivers with bust ones, incredibly over-priced, REALLY ugly, tries to be MacOS but does not pull it off, validation/activation cr@p, new file explorer interface, networking goes screwy every so often, did I mention UGLY?
 
Likes: Dx10 and Aero rocks. I like most things of vista.

Dislikes: Control panel and other system options don't always load when running an overclocked system( runs fine at stock).

Can't on IE 7. I have used it once. Only use FireFox.
 
Likes: Aero, the start menu search box, load time of apps compared to xp (thanks to superfetch), the sidebar and gadgets, and in perticular the Remote Desktop and Multi-meter gadgets, hybrid sleep... thats all i can think of for now...

Dislikes: none that i can really think of... (certain there is one or two tho)
 
Corel X3 works fine - you may need to download a patch.

Likes: Everything; rock solid; looks good; pro-active in searching for drivers and looking for online solutions to problems; great for networking/WLAN access etc/ - much better than XP in this regard; easier to crack than XP

Dislikes: File Explorer takes getting used to; Start menu programs can be cluttered; file transfer can be painfully slow if you are unlucky enough to be affected - no patch yet; UAC irritating, but has its merits
 
Likes: Aero, Load times, DX10
Dislikes: Price, Validation, Still prefer Xp
 
Guess it's time for me to shell out on a new HDD and give it a bash.

Are the Nvidia and Creative drivers sorted yet for Vista?

Nvidia drivers for 8 series cards are stable and offer good performance on most games now. Just remember use the last beta not the whql one.

Thanks, but I still gotta get my hands on an 8 series cards, prolly will wait for the intel price cuts again and upgrade fully. :)
 
I am on latest beta drivers with 8800, still buggy :P Splintercell DA doesnt work in single player, you dont see Sam fisher, u see 3 little lights on his head and everything is wack :( but multiplayer works fine...
 
8 series or not, the Vista drivers are okay now.. the performance gap isn't nearly as big (its faster sometimes), and I haven't encountered any game bugs from the drivers.

I've seen one or two (really only two) people call Vista ugly.. I don't know. It looks better than XP, almost definitely, are they comparing it to Mac?

Yeah but you have to edit the latest beta driver's inf file to get any other cards but 8 series to work. For the last few beta's they have only supported 8 series cards officially.

But if you edit the inf file then it supports all cards.
 
I dont think things such as software and driver support can be classed as "dislikes" the vista beta was out long enough, the software and hardware companies should have been up to date by now.
