DA to blame for N2 housing delay - Sisulu

Its terrible the way the DA actually practices some due diligence instead of just rubberstamping everything...
 
I'm just saying the ANC seems to get very upset when anyone doesn't agree with them but when their own incompetence is to blame everything's much more quiet, so I was partially serious and partially kidding. :D Either way I think all parties need to explain themselves.

If you read the rest of the sentance, you will see that they INITIATED the report to find out how much money was lost due to the CT council delay.

The DA here was behaving incompetently, and the ANC Ministers do jump down the throat of their own members, think - Radebe and the Monorail fiasco
 
Would ministers elsewhere survive the bugger up that is eNatis though?

Leave race out of this and imagine if it was like the Democrats in america just having the city of New york and the republicans having everything else. Imagine the political walling one must come up against.

What was the last count, no less than 7 or 8 hostile takeover attempts by the ANC, hardly respecting the vote I would say?

The City of Cape Town can not be looked at in isolation, Cape Town like every other city and dorpie in this country benefits from National Government's actions - The country is in a better position socialy, politicaly, and economicaly than it has ever been, and this is largely due to the new democratic government.

What significant difference has there been since the DA took over the city

The DA, on the other hand, has proven to be an innefectual opposition, and since that is ultimately their job, they have shown their incompetence in this regard

Zille is too new at her job as leader of the DA, and it would not be right to judge her on those merits at this point in time

Well the transport network is to be upgraded for the future, there is more BEE under DA leadership and the power no longer goes out as often.

However I agree to your point that the DA is inefficient opposition, but I don't suppose you have noticed, its the best opposition anyone has come up with so far. Don't see much progress being made in other opposition parties either.

I agree with your points recordings how better off we are due to democratic change 100%, but we do still have major problems to deal with. Surely you can agree with me that a one party state is dangerous? Absolute power corrupts absolutely (Think Ivy and Telkom.. dont we want more accountability? )

I am really not sure of the politics of the whole thing. But remember that the N2 Gateway project was initially controlled by the City under the ANC. Under Mayor Mfeketo little progress was made. Just before the DA took power, the Gateway project was transferred to Provincial government, presumably to stop the DA from gaining control of it.

As I understand, at that point, the City lost control of the Gateway project, and now has little to nothing to do with it's administration.

I don't know whether the article is right or wrong, but I would not believe what Sisulu says at face value, especially given the comments that the ANC have made about DA service delivery in Cape Town since it took over (which is rich since ANC service delivery at best was no better than the DA's).

Ignoring the cr@p you spewed in the beginning of the post, but yes we need a proper opposition, I am hoping that a party steps forward that can seriously challenge the ANC ( Cosatu, SACP, IFP coallition ) , or that at the very least Zille can transform the DA - maybe even through coallitions ( FF+, AEB, ID, UCDP, ACDP ) - to pose some threat to the ANC - that is the only way we can get accountability

The project is and has always been a joint initiative by the National Department of Housing, the Western cape Department of Housing and the City of Cape Town

While the rest of the parties have been working at getting the project underway, the City of Cape Town, under the leadership of the DA has failed, forgotten, or whatever to sign the Land Availability Agreement, thus delaying the project
 
Good criticism xtermina8tor, but the proof will be in the pudding as to how the DA resolves this situation.

The City of Cape Town, accused of using the N2 Gateway as a "political football", has been stripped by national government of all responsibilities relating to the housing project.

Housing Minister Lindiwe Sisulu declared a dispute against the City on Monday and instructed Mayor Helen Zille to recuse herself and the DA-led multiparty government from future involvement in the project.

But Zille said: "There is little new in today's announcement. Province and (Sisulu) have already taken this project away from the City of Cape Town. This happened the day before the March 1 elections when an agreement was signed with Thubelisha Homes."


'The City's remaining role in the N2 Gateway is to hand over all relevant information'

This agreement placed the next phase of the project in the hands of provincial and national government.

"The City's remaining role in the N2 Gateway is to hand over all relevant information to Thubelisha, and to provide services to the flats," she said.
