It actually costs money to report a crime?
Yea. But I think the R1 is more to cover the basic “Premium SMS Number” costs and is also there as an incentive not to abuse the service.

You complain about crime 24/7. The moment someone tries something good you complain about 1 louzy Rand. I'm more than willing to pay even R 50 for a tip off i know it will save someones life. Damn it ! Stop trying to find something to complain about.

Yeah we complain. Dont you know that this sms thing was awarded to the company under a cloud of suspicion? Do you not read the M&G? The guy who got the contract apparantly paid Selebi to see it was awareded to him.

Yes it does matter. How can we use a service that was awarded by crooks to crooks? Screw that. I am not supporting crime in any way.
My concern is that in low income areas where crime is rife a potential do-gooder might not have a rand to spare.
There is no reason why this had to be a paid service. The costs should have been subsidised.
