Fuel crisis looms in Gauteng

Probably will start to plan something, which will be finished in 2020. It will be slow going till then.
 
Ag wat ... just another crisis. We're getting so used to crisises now that we'll be shocked (having a crisis) when there aren't anymore.
 
On the plus side, it does show that they still expect people to have cars then.

It does not seem like a refinery issue, but rather an issue of transporting the imported fuels. If the capacity is being reached then the building of pipelines frim the coast should be looked into, or good ol' rail should be expanded as well, last but not least increase the number of trucks shipping the fuel from the coast.

Either way, we the consumer in Gauteng will have to pay a bigger margin more than our coastal counterparts. I think I will be transferring to Durban in couple of years:D
 
Strange that the province with the most 15l/100km+ SUVs and exotics is running out of fuel....

While proper government planning is obviously required to meet fuel demands, why don't we as consumers moderate our behaviour a little bit in order to conserve fuel, instead of just bitching about the government all the time?

The same can be said about our electricity shortages.
 
The world is heading for a fuel/energy meltdown - that may cause a major war (a war to be fought and won on horse-back) as countries scramble for limited sources.

The sooner man finds alternatives the better. And it must start at home with the individual making changes.

There were discussion recently about an additional tax on high powered vehicles (gasguzzlers) over a certain kilowatts.

ESKOM went to the government 10 years ago and said that we will need more power stations, the guv said aikona!!
Will a similar situation arise with fuel in the future now too?

It will be interesting to see what planning there is for this 'strategic' resource when one looks at the growth in the economy.

I agree with you on the Gas guzzling issue, however I don't think Goverment is to blame on this issue. They just provide regulations, they are not involved in actual transporting of fuel, and forecasting of demand, that lies solely on the Oil comapanies and their market predictions.

They obviously got it wrong, and now much play catch-up. Imagine the local BP office trying to explain to Global HQ why they now have to spend CAPEX on infrastructure all of a sudden. If I was the CEO, I would want to know who was responsible for forecasting of demand and fire their @ss.

Noted. Maybe instead of "governemt" I should have said "the powers that be". My point is - people always point a finger somewhere else, when at least some of the blame lies with themselves a lot of the time.
