And in a shocking claim the paramedics say there have been more than 30 strike-related deaths at Addington Hospital.

The paramedic said he and his colleagues want to work "but every hospital in the city has refused to take patients. Many of our members are aware that 32 patients have died at Addington Hospital alone since the strike began".

Addington Hospital's spokesperson Wesley Canham refused to deny or confirm the claim.


Superintendent general of the KwaZulu-Natal Health Service Dr Busi Nyembezi told a press briefing in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday that "some" patients have died in state hospitals during the strike. Nyembezi said because of staff shortages it was unknown how many of these deaths were strike-related or through natural causes.

She said staff have been asked to keep an accurate record of deaths at hospitals saying that the figures could be quantified when the strike was over.

All operation is called off in PTA Academic. My dad is waiting now for three days on the emergency list. Today would have been the day and it is stopped again. Damn Africa, damn africans, Damn South Africa!
 
OK, while I support the right for people to strike, within the framework that was accepted, this is now going past ridicolous.

Time to bring out the army (those who are sober, fit for service, not dying of AIDS etc), and arrest these creatures[1] and ship them off to Robben Island - or just dump them in the ocean.

Enough.


[1] I refer here specifically to those strikers who are behaving in a disgusting, uncivilised way - and not to peaceful placard wavers.
 
Strikers that get injured during a strike should not be given ANY medical attention if they act up like this.
