An interesting merger in the past.

The story is that Nintendo collaborated with Sony, but the deal they signed ended up giving Sony rights to any games produced, so they pulled out of the deal.
 
This is the actual history of the Playstation.

Nintendo contracted Sony to build a CD extension for their console (Like the Sega CD etc, can't remember if it was the SNES or n64) Anyway, they had a falling out over royalties and the deal fell apart, so Sony decided to go it alone, and that, as they say, is history.
