President Bush's nominee for surgeon general, Dr. James W. Holsinger Jr., wrote a paper in 1991 that purported to make the medical argument that homosexuality is unnatural and unhealthy. Doctors who reviewed the paper derided it as prioritizing political ideology over science, and Democratic aides on Capitol Hill say the paper will make his confirmation hearings problematic, if not downright bruising.
 
If homosexuality isn't natural or healthy then neither is smoking, but I don't see the church going crazy about smokers!

Ironically King James 1st "denounced tobacco use as "[a] custome lothsome to the eye, hatefull to the Nose, harmefull to the braine, dangerous to the Lungs, and in the blacke stinking fume thereof, neerest resembling the horrible Stigian smoke of the pit that is bottomelesse.""

I say ironically because he is of course better know for his translation of that other book.

Back your post - outside of North America tobacco use wasnt popularised until the 1600s so its omission from the bible is understandable.
