I've been running Vista now for a couple of months now and no problems so far.

No seriously I have had no issues with Vista 32 ultimate. Very stable so far.

I gave up with Vista.
Looks pretty, but cannot do much except **** you - much like a trophy wife.
Games did not work - my best example is M$'s RON (original purchased disks - not some pirasted mounted thingy). Graphic glitches galore.
Lots of 3rd party tools do not work - so, my productivity took a dive (and judging by my post #, I cannot afford that!).
My 2c, stick with XP.

ic, same problem but bitdefender and firefox...
I guess the most irritating aspect of Windoze - in this case Vista, is that I was under the mistaken impression that the era of unwanted popups had come to an end, and yet Microsoft still likes the idea of irritating paper-clip type messages...
As soon as I know that my HP notebook has all the necessary device support in Ubuntu Linux, I will definitely switch over to Ubuntu - my hatred for Vista grows exponentially everyday, and since I've been working almost exclusively in Linux for quite a while, I am really missing my Linux comfort zone

Most people will end up with Vista anyways. The same thing happened with XP.
Yes, true, but at least with Linux one has the illusion of being able to change the code if one really wants to, whereas Microsoft is closed off and cannot be changed at the code level.

Erm.... that's really useless. Chage the code? So you could (If you've studied this for years) spend days or weeks changing the code to get something to work, sounds great.
Unfortuantely Linux has a lot of issues too, and those can be harder to solve than Windows ones. I tried out Ubuntu but got stuck on getting my wireless card to work, I'm sure i could have done it, but it was taking a lot longer than it should.
btw, what problem is there with Firefox and AVG? I have no problem with my NOD 32 and obviously none with FF, does AVG actually support Vista?
That's the thing though, Firefox works in Vista, AVG works in Vista, and yet Vista keeps on popping up stupid little messages to say that Firefox is a problem - presumably bcos I'm using Firefox and not IE7, and AVG Free works but I get stupid little popup messages saying that it does not work, however AVG Anti-Spyware [Free] refused to run until I put it into heXPee compatibility mode - so that obviously does need to be updated by AVG for Vista, but the $#@^% popup messages in Vista make meErm.... that's really useless. .I did have major issues with HP's CredentialManager trying to steal my usernames & passwords entered into both Firefox and IE7, and I also had sporadic Firefox hanging issues, but that all stopped after I uninstalled HP's spyware application.

Vista rocks. Haven't had any mayor issue with any software. the only games which haven't worked for me were games which were released for win 98. All others have worked.
I use firefox and AVG and I am not getting any of these pop up messages you are complaining about. I am running vista home premium 32 bit retail.

Just a quick question to the vista people. If you leave vista running a long time does performance degrade like with XP? Also, with XP after a while (year or so), windows starts lagging to heck, no matter what you try do.. was wondering if Vista does that?

ic, correct me if Im wrong but the pop-ups only seem to affect me after Ive closed Firefox, or after bitdefender has run autoupdate and then I get a message like "Firefox has stopped working and needs to be closed" or some **** and then I scream back at the monitor "I know it stopped working I clicked the little box with an x in it at the top right of the screen!!!"

been running for six months now, and again, havnet noticed any performace degrade

The thing is that I don't have problems with Firefox - not after unstalling HP's spyware app, and yet Vista seems to think I do have problems with Firefox, call it my own conspiracy theory but I get the distinct impression that M$ don't like the fact that I don't like using IE7 - ergo the annoying popups trying to subliminally convince me that Firefox is evil or something...
