Can a .mp3 have 5.1 discrete channels?

Hi,

My previous post regarding the video conversion worked well : I more than halved most files. However what is the ideal audio format, to keep the Dolby Digital 5.1? Can mp3 do it?

It seems that their is a "new" MP3 surround sound format can do it.

I Googled it and found some articles from 2004 and 2006

I am not sure if conversion S/W to convert from Dolby 5.1 to MP3 Surround Sound is available.
