Johannesburg - Hundreds of people of all religious persuasions are flocking to be blessed by a 17-year-old girl who claims to have had visions of the Virgin Mary around her home.

Sightings like this are rare in South Africa, where only 6% of the population is Catholic.

Archbishop Buti Tlhagale, the bishop of the diocese of South Africa, was not in his office to respond to the girl's claims.

Francesca Zackey's parents have converted the front room of their house in Benoni into a prayer room. The sideboard buffet has been turned into a shrine, fronted by a child-sized statue of Mary surrounded by bouquets of roses and pictures of a crucified Jesus.

Francesca is the youngest of four daughters in a devoted Catholic Lebanese family.

Bridget, Francesca's mother, said: ""She's always been a different child, very bold."

She said the visions seemed to come at an opportune time for her daughter who had finished school and was going through a transitional period in her life.

"I think this is her calling."

Francesca said she first saw the Virgin Mary on May 7, interrupting the family's evening meal.

She has had about 20 visions of the Virgin and each site is marked with candles, idols of Mary and roses.

A while back someone saw the Virgin Mary and she was wearing a mini skirt. Yeah me 2.

This girl is from Benoni and who does "faith healings" oh well. It takes all types.

OK. So why would the Virgin Mary choose to appear in this girls living room? In all seriousness, why? Wouldn't someplace like a religious location (temple) be more appropriate? I find these things bizarre. Like when people see a face in the window glass. Why not just appear like normal people would do?

Blessed by an 17 year old? Is she devine? No she isn't, so stop worshiping idols peoples.
 
Somebody might want to check the 17yr olds bag for narcotics.
 
Probably turn out her BF's 'dom broke and she is setting the stage for an immaculate conception....

These crackpots should not be given air time. It lends credibility to their fantasy. I wonder if there is some kind of financial motive.
