Striking teachers send clear message to government (VIDEO)

It is really a shame that the teachers had to join the other striking unions. I find it incredible that we pay so little to people that carry the biggest responsibility for the future of South Africa. But maybe the government's biggest interest is in having an uneducated youth, because when people cannot read or write, they are sure not to know about corruption etc.
Trevor Manuel in his budget speech promised a major overhaul of the teaching environment. It was one of the most requested items on the ask trevor campaign before the budget. Yet none of this has even remotely come to fruition. In the case of teachers this strike should never have happened and negotiations should have been handled very differently. Most teachers I know of hate the idea of striking, yet what can they do to ensure a proper living environment?
If there are problems with some teachers and schools, sort that out. But the majority are hardworking people dedicated to their profession and definitely deserves better than they are currently getting.
One of the teachers told me last night that she was in matric with a big strike in 1993 and that her education/career has suffered tremendously because of that.
Please in the case of the teachers pay them what they deserve and let us not damage the situation and our children's future beyond repair!
