Hey guys. Just wanted to warn anyone driving through the Cato Manor Rd and Jan Smuts Highway intersection next to the "informal settlement" not to leave any valuables in view to people walking past the car. I was on my way to campus today around 12:30 when this guy bashed in the window of the car in front of me, grabbed a handbag and jogged away casually.

Maybe post other areas to watch out for.

Yeah that happened to my gf aswell, at the same spot. The Mayville cops are on the ball though, they've already arrested one of the chaps she pointed out in their id parade book.

Its good to hear somethings been done about it, the way the dude was walked off and no one even looked twice is like its totally normal.

I mean I know that it happens all the time, but people not caring is sad. I mean all the poor woman got was stares and hooting cos she didnt take off in time when the robot turned green straight after.

Yeah, they need to put up a sign there warning people about the smash & grab risk. Every week there's stories about that spot in the local newspapers.

Also watch out at the Fountains Circle in Pretoria, approaching from the N14/Eufees Road. You'll see little heaps of glass lying on the left hand side of the road from all of the Smash&Grabs. The ^%#$ers almost got my girlfriend last week.

My mother and sister were in smash and grabs in the same spot ( each traveling by themselves). The cops were right behind my mother however and found the guy and when she had to go to court the judge gave him a full sentence for repeated offenses.

Rather turn off before and go via the N3, much safer but longer and more traffic.

My gf used that route primarily because she didn't like the Brickfield rd. on-ramp. Since they've made it a dedicated lane she now takes that route.

In Port Elizabeth watch out at the intersection of 9th avenue and Buffelsfontein road, near Walmer shack area. Plenty of smash and grab incidents and brick throwing.

Mostly by youths staying in the informal settlement next to the road.

It would be nice to rig a cheap handbag, window open, with a teargas canister and wait for the fun :D

Please people, GET YOUR CAR WINDOWS TINTED WITH ANTI-SMASH AND GRAB FILM!

You dont have to get blacked out windows, you get clear tint.

Are your wives/girlfriends/mothers not worth the +-R1000 for the tinting?
IT COULD SAVE THEIR LIVES.

Yep, and it makes you feel safer in the car as well. I got the 35% tint when I got my new car, it's just a liiiitle tinted, but it helps A LOT to keep the car cooler when parked in the sun.

No the only difference is the amount of tint (how dark you want the window to be). There are differences in makes as though... Try to get 3M film if possible, apparently their's are the best.
