so wait, what would be the point of getting a standalone WIMAX solution i.e. without any GB's? Will we be given choices of which ISP to use for WIMAX in future?

Well the initial Cost/Mbps/GB may be higher than iBust , Vodacom and MTN it would be nice to see a Cost/Mbps/GB on acctual throughput. I've never seen anything close to advertised on Vodacom or MTN's HSDPA ?
You will be able to buy your GB's from any ADSL ISP...uses the same realm...
This is indeed what one should be looking at...we hope to do testing again later this year which should give this info...

And where is the cost of entry?
Aka "installation fees" and the fees paid for the hardware (ADSL modems are cheap compared to HSDPA and iBurst)?

If WiMax is available, why can't I order it like ADSL from their website?

RPM, shouldn't your comparison just stick to the Telkom do Products?
That would put Telkom's 2Gb offer at R485/Mbps/Gb
And put Telkom's 3Gb offer at R56/Mbps/Gb, which by your defintion would be the best value!!!
And then TelkomInternet generally allow twice the number of gigs on their products .
And then who get's full speed regularly on HSDPA or ibUrst?
The real problem here is that you cannot use Cost per Mbps per Gb as a reliable basis for the comparitive valuation of capped services
In an uncapped world, it would make perfect sense. But 3gb is 3gb regardless of the speed. While there is some benefit to doing things a little faster, that marginal benefit is a great deal less than the ratio of the download speed.
In our rationed world, most broadband users would choose to double their caps long before choosing to double their speed.
That would put Telkom's 2Gb offer at R485/Mbps/Gb
And put Telkom's 3Gb offer at R56/Mbps/Gb, which by your defintion would be the best value!!!

We felt that it would be a better comparison to use DSL services with the same speed as WiMax. Since WiMax offer 512 Kbps I think it is best to compare it with DSL512. Since Telkom does not have a DSL512 service with a 1 GB offering we opted for the Do 384 service…

just a pitty when calling telkom nobody can tell you which areas is covered by there wimax so its as good as saying we can give you a fiber optic cable straight into our mainframe 'if you in the right area' but they dont say which area.... and yes i know they say pretoria but on asking them where in pretoria they dont know...

Of course there is the problem that Telkom 3GB is not 3GB normally it is 5 or 6 GB. How do you factor this in?

‘Stand alone access’ is priced at R 240-00 per month
you have to pay air rental!!! OMG
Wheels and roundabouts. You'll pay for access to the network and then you'll pay +-R70/Gb. On other netwroks, the access might be "free", but then you'll pay R200/Gb. Makes things fairly comparable on small usage, but for large usage the first model is much more affordable.
