I've been using Facebook since the beginning of April. It's a tool to connect to friends in different countries, but we've also been using it increasingly at work to organise our existing networks. Now my account has been terminated. Again. Irrevocably.

I won't exactly say that I'm surprised. Although, I can understand the frustration you must be feeling.

I said it before that I'm not fond of Facebook - I use it, but I don't like it.

Not all too long ago, I found myself on the Facebook's Wiki and couldn't help but read the criticisms and have my jaw drop in dismay.

I tried cancelling my Facebook account only to discover that all it does is simply "turn it off" your profile rather than physically remove your existence from Facebook - I don't like that at all, and had I known that from the start, I'd never have registered with them.

Ah well, c'est la vie. I hope, for your sake, rpm, that they pull their heads outta their butts and see reason.

Facebook wants my hotmail account password!!!

Hi Guys,

Few minutes ago I tried to register at Facebook.com but was suprised that they also wanted my hotmail account password. IS THIS NORMAL. I didn't supply the password though, I became very suspicous.

Please advise.

That is an optional step. It is there to add people from your Hotmail contact list. For the love of Jah SKIP this step. Don't ever give people your passwords. I think it is quite wrong that they blatently ask people for their passwords. I am sure thousands of people have just given it to them.
 
Thanks man, they make the password part look mandatory[nothing suggests optional], that's what raised by suspicion.

You can always do that step - just change the password afterwards.

I've heard that before, I registered when it was still for students only and they didn't ask that then but it does seem to be a recent addition
 
Sorry, but I don't think I need Facebook. First impressions last, it was the first time that a seemingly genuine site asked for my email account password!!!
I will never visit their site again!!!

It is a genuine site and if they ever did anything nefarious with your details they'd be out of business tomorrow. Probably not a risk they're willing to take. ;)
 
I use it and like it. I don't use many of the apps as they are external mostly. I find the site quite secure and have no worries with them yet.
 
Probably not a risk I-AM willing to make. I only read about them today, but something is wrong here. I hope I am wrong, but won't change my mind on this one. They'll have to steal it from me!!

Then create a throwaway hotmail account with nothing in it and use that to register.

You dont need to supply them with your email password to register. It is simply an optional step if you want them to go through your email contacts to find other members. I skipped that step.

If you do use a throwaway it's not going to have any contacts in it anyway ;)
 
This isn't any kind of slight or slur on Our Great Leader ;) but how is it that one little oke in one, 'net-wise, pissant country be too much for some almighty Yank 'net creation/phenomenon??! SURELY what he's capable of, in the context of a (more or less) :p sane and rational individual going about the machinations of his life can't be more than, say, some genuinely malicious snot-nosed brat?

But, and besides the pain of being socially cast out, maybe he can impress upon his friends, associates, et al to consider the last great social buzz: orkut?
