Will we need TV licences for cellphones?

I never even thought of that. And since they are portable, will each cell phone owner (as opposed to each household) need one?

Will make SABC the most profitable company in SA.
 
yeah this is becoming perverse.

tv license is evil legacy from some dark times. now would be the time for the regulator to strike this concept of the books.

IMV moment there is more than one provider argument of licensing a generic device like TV to collect revenue becomes absolute as each of the licensed broadcasters should have a claim on the collected revenue!

Given that contemplating inclusion of PC's and Cell phones is absurd in itself.

There is nfw that I will pay for a tv license on my cellphone.
 
Oh ffs, I'm so sick of propping up useless government parastatals that couldn't survive in a market economy.
 
TV License should be paid directly to ICASA & they in turn should distribute the funds. Shouldn't only go to the friggin SABC.
 
I heard somewhere that a license is only needed if the device has a built in tuner. I'm not sure about it, could someone clear that up?

I've heard that too, its covered in the definition really, a device without a tuner isn't "able to receive broadcast television signals". The question is then, does DVB-H qualify as that?
