Nu Metro blinks first in ticket price war

They're trashy cinemas. Only just worth what it costs to go on a Tuesday.
I know several people who go to the trouble of patronising Nu Metro because of that reduced ticket price.
The cinema is simply not worth what they charge. It is bad enough paying for one person, but taking a family to a cinema that costs R40 a ticket is insane.
There's a price war going on? No way, anybody notice?
R40 per ticket at a normal ster-kinekor/nu-metro cinema is outrageous, if they make the prices reasonable they will obviously get much more ticket sales and full cinemas.
Personally I hate the "sit-anywhere" tickets. If their cinema design is so bad that people refuse to sit in the front row seats, maybe they should do something about it other than first come first serve seating. Naturally they are just trying to squeeze that extra bit out of the customer by putting in 4-5 rows extra in front which everybody hates sitting in.
Remove all the Edgars card/Discovery Vitality/Blah blah card crap, and lower the average price for all. Stop subsidising the few who have those cards from the masses who do not.
Where have the good old days gone where you could actually see previews to new movies in the cinemas? These days its just crap Telkom advertisements.

Most people at home now have bigger TV's, surround sound DVD players etc. at home which makes cinemas less appealing, especially since more and more people are getting movies from other sources and seeing them before they come out here.

100 % and the popcorn at home is a whole sh!tload cheaper.
I could afford to send my kids to the movies when using the Edgars club card. Even with the club card, the ticket including snacks and cooldrinkwould be about R50 or so. If the ticket is going to be R40 and snacks R30, well I do not think I want to spend that amount per child on a movie I could get when it comes out on dvd for less than R15 on contract and we can all watch. Apparently the Edgars club card can be used up till the end of September according to the guys at New Metro. I wonder how much business they will get at R40 a pop?

I think South Africa is unusual in having booked seats. The more expensive cinemas here still do it. The main reason I liked booked seats was because it allowed me to arrive just before the movie instead of having to sit through the rubbish they show beforehand, including movie previews.
In the big cinemas like Cavendish Square row 5 or 6 is usually the perfect place to sit. Screen is big and the speakers are all just right. I don't know why people ever sit in the back rows at a cinema. Too far back and I may as well see the movie at home.

I can see a whole lot of cancelled Edgars card memberships too....
At what it costs to take a family to the cinema you could buy the DVD.
And the only twit with a cellphone that I have to worry about is myself.

I'm not afraid to admit I am one of them - I specifically got the Edgards card for the movie deal - now it is pretty useless - cheerios Edgars.

I'm planning to go watch Pirates of the Caribean 3 tommorow morning at the Hatfield Nu Metro. If the price isnt R14 I'm leaving, because then I cant buy popcorn and coke...
