Yo BOFH's

Please help me (Luser hehe)

I got two BSOD today...twice!!

Event ID 20227. stop error - ndiswan.sys

Running Vista Ultimate

Yelp my assb!:o

Some site I stumbled across recommends that you reinstall your network card drivers, and replace ndiswan.sys from the CD. That's for windows xp, might help in vista?

Recommendation : Downgrade to XP.

'nuff zed... not gonna waste my time with the piece of shirt that's Vista.

At the moment it's so full of Richards that we won't recommend it - and will wait until SP1 before trying it out.

Even the Shiff showed some common sense and insisted on having a laptop with XP preinstalled.

Ndiswan.sys is the "Remote Access NDIS WAN Driver" and besides some sort of networking error, I can't imagine what would cause it to have issues.

If you can't do what T_L suggested, can you give any other details?

The reason I'm stumped is that I've been on Vista for a few weeks now with very little k@k.

What I've done so far today is defrag, disabled the ethernet card (that's not in use or connected to another pc on a lan) and basically updated VUE and anti virus software. Cant find any driver conflicts in sys info. I have seen that I'm a bit low on memory. My rig has a 1GB Ram but under cached memory it says "0" wtf!!

I did see that SCVHOST.exe is chowing up like 60% in the resource monitor???

I swear I must have some malware, but I've run lavasoft adaware 1.06R1 and my pc is clean??

I wonder if its not due to some pr0n dialer or p2p shyte (but off course I'd never browse pr0n or use such p2p stuff hehehe)

I'll give it another week then its back to XP for me. Vista and office2007 is just a bunch of gui fluff anyway..can't see the real deal yet and am sorry I wasted good money. MS keeps believing that lusers want pretty bubbly gui..all we want is stable frikken pc's that don't keep k@king!! Jissis I am so frustrated I think I'll have to fire up my bong...and I was doing so well..two weeks straight and what has it got me.. STRESS SE MOSES MET N FLOCHEN PC OP N NAAISWEEK!!

@ BTech : welcome to the Wonderful World of Microsoft Windows :p

Precisely for that reason us BOFH's won't touch Vista with a bargepole - too much new and fluffy stuff in that which can bork at the least opportunate moment.

So you wasted good money on Vista and Orifice2007? What a shame... :p :D

I prefer OpenOffice and any version of Linux - much stabler and better.

Interestingly, the top questions being asked to Microsoft at this stage are Vista downgrading rights - here's the link : http://news.softpedia.com/news/Vista-XP-Downgrade-Rights-Hot-Microsoft-Subject-57931.shtml

:D

Yeah we're not even considering rolling out Vista to our locations until at least SP1.

well since I disabled the ethernet card its not BSOD anymore...but that can't be the problem!! I'll run it till the weekend..if it k@k's again I'll format!!

I just hope that it hasn't screwed my bios permanently. Everytime my machine starts since this install a command prompt window opens and closes?? I think there's definitely some dos malware in my OS that I just can't find despite 'defender" hehe

There's something quite fishy about that BTech... Have you tried running the normal plethora of anti-spyware/malware stuff and AV (besides adaware)?

Besides that, was the machine created for vista or is it perhaps sitting with crappy drivers for Vista that don't really function properly?
