I was told today that I'm NOT ALLOWED to take photos or videos of Green Point Stadium

Since when is Green Point Stadium, a public venue, TOP SECRET for the public to take photos or videos? I was standing ON THE STREET taking a picture and security came and told me that I was NOT ALLOWED TO DO SO without PRIOR APPROVAL from management, which was closed today. I am OUTRAGED that I am forbidden to take pictures of part of our city --- MY CITY! WHO DO THESE POLITICIANS think we are? Rats running around just paying rates for NOTHING? I am absolutely disgusted by this. I went undercover and took as many photos and videos as I liked from Ocean View Drive afterwards ... who knows WHAT THEY'RE HIDING in there but clearly it's too top secret for us poor little peasants out here in the public to find out about.

NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!!

Don't worry, if you keep taking picyures I don't think they're allowed to do anything to you. These security guards just spew out whatevers been told to them. If it's a public area like you say then it's all good..
 
Go back there with a video cam and a friend and record it. See if you can catch the conversation on record. Would make interesting footage.

Seriously, go there with a video camera and some friends and ask them questions on camera. See what happens :D
 
Thank you Telkomisaloser! I can think of a few other losers right now!!! I'm off to have a SERIOUS drink! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I feel like pitching a tent there tomorrow!!! I might even do what wizard said - or call Carte Blanche about this!!! IT'S MAD!
 
I was once told the same thing when taking pictures of the Point Waterfront Development in Durban.

Not sure if it is legal for anyone to stop you taking pictures of buildings when standing on a public street??
 
I'm picturing some Special Assignment-esque type footage :D.

And AFAIK if you're in a public place not doing anything illegal they can't touch you.
 
Aren't police stations, army bases and the like desgnated as restricted places - i.e. no pics. Maybe the stadium is one now, since it will be a terrorist target?
 
I'm actually incredibly pissed off about this. I'm going to go hunting for this so-called MANAGEMENT office tomorrow morning and get to the bottom of whatever game they think they're playing here!!
 
But Skeptic what I don't understand is how it's perfectly ok for me to take pictures from anywhere else in Cape Town (like Ocean View drive, with a full view of everything happening within the 5m high walls) except on the street next to the stadium? Doesn't make sense ... except to MR X!
 
Pity that they haven't taken shots of the demolished site yet though! Please give us a shout when they've updated it. We can start a poster-across-Cape-Town campaign!!!! *sipping drink to calm down a bit*
 
So what would have happened if you had refused to stop, would they have had you arrested? Under which law? Anyone clued up on this?
