Vista only games cracked for XP

You mean one game was cracked by changing some files in the install directory, maybe if the game had no DX9 code this wouldn't be possible?

btw, does this mean the first DX10 game (even though I haven't even heard of this one) is out? Surely it must be DX10 to be Vista only, otherwise what's the point...

Well I was shooting you for changing the title, it was "Vista only game". :p

If those Falling Leaf guys had finished their work maybe it would have been all games, that might take a while still.

afaik Halo 2 for the pc can also on run on windows vista

Thats more of a marketing ploy that a technology requirement.

For Halo and this game definitely, but if developers decide (for some reason :() to only write a game in DX10 then it will have to be Vista only until someone comes up with a fix, which might be difficult.

Neither shodow run or halo 2 which are vista only are dx10. Both are MS game and they wanted to promote vista thats why they made both games vista only but the two games are dx9 not dx10.

Haha, ja I was wondering if this game was Microsoft as well...

I doubt any other developers would do the same thing, unless MS persuades them. :(

With the extremely poor uptake of Vista, it would be suicidal and stupid of developers to create DX10-only games when they can program games in at least the same visual quality in OpenGL. Of course MS could force them too,
but it probably won't effect all these Russian/European developers (Cossacks etc). MS Vista-Only requirement is just an articifical imposition used to force
people to buy Vista, at least at this stage. It's also a great reason to get sheep to upgrade their still powerful graphics cards to DX10 ones. Avoid Vista, buy a Wii or a PS3. :)

Too late, I've already got Vista, I'm not avoiding it because other people hate Microsoft.

And I hate consoles, (compared to PC gaming) but you're free to buy one. :)

I'm sure most developers aren't going to write in DX10 only, this never happened before, but apparently it's harder to write in DX10 only and then port to DX9?

Peter I don't know if you're short sighted intentionally or are simply in the dark where anything involving MS is concerned.

1. There's no GL equivalent version of DX10 (2.1 is close but only DX10 hardware supports it anyway, so that still leaves DX9 cards out of the loop)

2. Which would be stupid developers are these? 360 is in between DX9.0c and DX10. Its easier to port to DX10 platform than to DX9 for the most part.
With Vista/DX10 you can port every game on the 360 to the PC this is not necessarily true for DX9/XP

3. Those which you call sheep at any given time are aware of the short comings of XP/DX9 and chose with their own money to buy Vista and DX10 cards. If you are happy with XP/DX9 or your consoles that's fine, but don't advocate on behalf of those who have moved to Vista and DX10 cards ;)
Nobody is qualified for that, certainly not you.

For the most part yeah... Sure there are things that I wish were better, but on any given day those are minor things that are not enough to make me want to go back to XP.

I'm sure there will be alot of games writen for directx10 only by the end of the year. Directx10 is an improvement over 9 and on that basis alone Gaming company's will definately make use of the extra features provided by Directx 10

Yes indeed. Its only a tool however. If a said developer was making a rubbish game (visually that is) chances are it'd be rubbish even if it were targeted for DirectX8. So having it be DX10 isn't going to do anything...

If a developer is really good then they can leverage the features brought by the new API to their advantage and produce a stunning visual experience.

Personally I am for the most part totally satisfied with vista and my dx10 card.
