JOB creation in SA’s formal economy slowed sharply in the first quarter of the year, backing critics’ argument that existing policies and a higher growth rate were failing to address unemployment.

The new jobs figures are also likely to provide ample scope for left-wing allies of the African National Congress (ANC) to attack the party’s business-friendly policies at its policy conference, starting today.

Wonder if the AA policy had anything to do with the skills shortage?

Don't read too much into one quarter's figures!

Dont think significantly so. The fact is the vast majority of the SA skills base is unemployable in the industries we are looking to grow in.
So a good skilled taxi driver is unemployable in the Transport industry, since what we need are mechanics :D

The ANC have realised that their AA policy benefits their own voters. That's no small incentive to keep it going - even to delay any changes that would demand its replacement.
