motherboard problems

I had a problem with my windows system as i got the blue screen of death after i installed my new mother board with a dual core with hyperthreading.

This is my problem,I took my hard drive out my other pc so to use it with my new pc,well i tryed loading but for good reason i knew that my windows would not boot up,as all settings are diffirent.

So in the end i installed a fresh copy of windows on my drive under a differant name winny,so as not to loose my data without formating.

NOW HERE IS MY PROBLEM AND THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM
I go to c drive and in to document and settings and browse for my previose folders,but when i select my document,it gives me a error saying access denied.mydocuments is not accesible.......now i ask with tears in my eyes how can i retrieve mydata.

Can i just put my hardrive in in another pc and access it
must i put it back in my old pc and then access it(a bit impossible as i sold it)
Is there a trick to acess my document,(there was no password so thats not the problem.

please help as i need to get back all my music/movies/business stuff.
i know i know i was stupid,i should of backed up my drive,to late noe so to all the experts out there please help

you need to take ownership of the files.

if using xp home, restart in safe mode, log in as administrator...
xp pro, just disable simple file sharing.

If all else fails, boot into BartPE and just copy it into your current folder (but that's really if all else fails )

Taking ownership should solve the problem.
