i am happy for all BCX employees and customers
We would have left BCX if it went through!!!

Oh well, I wouldn't have minded working for Telkom. Their salary packages and benefits on my level looked pretty attractive.

I think if one looks beyond the whole monopoly shroud, the opportunities provided by Telkom, especially for Network Engineers and Technical Developers, would have opened up a new world.

If [searchforum]Steve "Chinese Maths" Hayward[/searchforum] was still a Telkodemonopolies employee, I would be inclined to think that the anonymous analyst might have been him...

De facto number of fixed line network operators in SA: 1.
De facto amount of of fixed line competition in SA: 0.

Until that actually changes, Telkodemonopolies cannot be allowed to further entrench its market dominance.

While the Competition Tribunal's decision does instil confidence, we have not yet heard anything about a decision on the ISPA's other complaint lodged against Telkodemonopolies, and let's not forget that Telkodemonopolies managed to worm its way out of the previous ruling against it - from the original ISPA complaint - I'm actually surprised that Telkodemonopolies didn't tell the Competition Commission & Tribunal to refer the BCX merger to !CASA in the usual Telkodemonopolies delaying & obfuscation tactic style.

ISPA's two other complaints actually. There is one still pending from 2002 and another from 2005. And, technically, Telkom hasn't managed to worm its way out of the first ruling. What they have managed to do is tie the 2002 matter up in legal red tape for several years. But the Commission's recommendation to the Tribunal that Telkom be given a massive fine for various anti-competitive practices remains on the table, and could (hopefully will) still come back to haunt them.

Doesn't his pose a huge problem for Telkom and BCX??? If I can recall right, there was a news report about a month ago saying that they are already acting as one company. If that report was infact correct, then Telkom and BCX has got a huge problem on their hands - hopefully something that will cost Telkom millions in court fees and fines!!!!

Ant, thanks for clarifying :).

It would be a happy day to see Telkodemonopolies paying a hefty but just price & eating humble pie for at least some of its many wrong-doings, and maybe such a hefty fine would be just the monetary incentive for Telkodemonopolies to have to sell its 50% stake in Vodacom [I mean to offset a R2bn+ fine]...

A R3bn+ fine, IIRC :D
Theoretically, what would the Competition Tribunal do with the money from such a fine? - apart from hopefully paying for the ISPA's legal costs, but what would happen to the balance of the R3bn+ ? Maybe the Competition Commission & Tribunal could hire more staff to clear their backlog...

I'm pretty sure that Competition Commission fines get paid into the National Revenue Fund. They are, as I understand it, unfortunately not used to cover the legal fees of those parties lodging complaints.

That sucks :(. Surely something that's worth having changed...
