Written by Joffre Papenfus, PretoriaThe system of television licences should simply be abolished. The SABC is incapable of providing any programming of even basic value, and still we are forced to finance this bureaucratic gravy train.
If the SABC cannot compete in the marketplace, we should be rid of it.
If the government and its supporters want a “national broadcaster”, they should pay for it, not force the subsidy on the general public.
Furthermore, in a country where even the police and other authorities can (unfortunately) not be trusted any more, it is completely unacceptable for SABC contractors to be allowed access to private homes. This must be resisted at all costs!
