The system of television licences should simply be abolished. The SABC is incapable of providing any programming of even basic value, and still we are forced to finance this bureaucratic gravy train.
If the SABC cannot compete in the marketplace, we should be rid of it.

If the government and its supporters want a “national broadcaster”, they should pay for it, not force the subsidy on the general public.

Furthermore, in a country where even the police and other authorities can (unfortunately) not be trusted any more, it is completely unacceptable for SABC contractors to be allowed access to private homes. This must be resisted at all costs!

Amen!

I'm sure as hell not going to open my door for these people, they can negotiate with my 3 rottweilers for safe passage into my house...

Holy hell. No, no SABC people in my house thanks very much.

I still don't see why I need to pay for them if I don't ever watch TV.

What I don't understand, is how are we supposed to prove that we've paid our TV license? For the past three years I've paid my TV license online, and all I've received from them was an sms confirmation saying it has been paid.

Am I not supposed to get a TV license card?

Forward that sms onto me :D

maybe start a boycott - people will watch ETV - newspapers can join in by running stories about what is going on in the programs people might miss - advertising people are well aware of the numbers

The SABC has a parastatal mentality ......... they seem unable to provide a service that people would want to pay for and feel more comfortable by resorting to scare tactics.

It's nothing more than ANC propaganda TV.

Good article

Yeah I can see it now.......

SABC People: Hello
Me............: Hello
SABC People: We are from the SABC and *click*...... Hello?
Me............ :..................................
SABC People:Hello?
Me............ :.............................

And that will go on for as long as they feel like talking to themselves :D

When they do come around ...... and to prove that I don't watch TV I will throw them with an old set I have standing around.

Would make a great headline.

"TV inspector crushed by TV"

Happened to me about 5 years ago - I just gave the inspector the licence number (you must have that since you pay the licence).
In fact, I even bought a TV from Makro with JUST the number and my ID book so they could compare.
