Washington - The US Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that schools cannot take steps to assure racially mixed student populations, dealing a blow to so-called "affirmative action" programmes.

In the 5-4 ruling, the high court ruled in favor of parents who were battling the criteria used to admit students to schools in two cities where whites and blacks live in mostly segregated neighbourhoods.

The schools had argued that students should be assigned to different facilities, sometimes far from home, to ensure racial diversity.

Roberts wrote that permitting "racial balancing as a compelling state interest would justify the imposition of racial proportionality throughout American society," contrary to the constitutional right to equal protection.

This is what is wrong with "demographic representivity" in South Africa.... This judge nailed the issue on the head!

Liberal judge Stephen Breyer wrote in a dissenting opinion, however, that it was a "decision that the court and the nation will come to regret."

"The last half-century has witnessed great strides toward racial equality, but we have not yet realized the promise of 'Brown.' To invalidate the plans under review is to threaten the promise of 'Brown,'" he wrote.

"The plurality's position, I fear, would break that promise."

Unfortunately for the left they nowadays can't smear the conservatives with their usual PC “racist” cr@p :o. Just look at Condi Rice and Powel who are all black and conservative. It's lost on them that they would choose fairness over favor the left offers them based on their race.

The world is a changing and the whole world needs to move to the middle where common sense prevails. **** race and **** this racism ****. Politicians and NGOs are making a killing (moneywise) by keeping the old drum beat going.... Just look at the riches folks like Jesse Jackson and the likes are getting together? If they didn't have their causes, there would be no money to go all over the world and talk crap about "racism" this and "racism" that... Who would they be?

I always say... Look at how dependent a man is on what he says before choosing to believe him. If he makes his money by saying the crap he is saying, take it with a pinch of salt.

Well you got a problem because those judges and people against it are referred to or labeled by themselves as Liberal while those judges in favour are considered conservative :D
 
The difference between the US and RSA is that here is that the advancement of the majority of the population is protected by the constitution. This case would have had an opposite outcome had it been presented to the contitutional court.

The converse of your initial sentence is essentially that the advancement of the minority is therefore prevented, or at least hindered.
