What's more disturbing
1. Children watching a porno
2. A 74-year-old woman watching a porno
3. A 74-year-old woman watching Action X

When I was a teenager.. I was the kind of guy that needed a steady flow of porn... I used to have a friend who was my porn connecttion.. I mean he ALWYAS used to have porno's, on VHS. This was in teh eighties, before eth interner and well before adult world. Yet this guy hada steady flow of the choicest porn there was.... I was about 16 and he was about 10.... He's a doctor now.... and he turned out alright.. IMO a little bit of porn is good for kids!!! hehehehe
 
Parents should set Parental Block on their decoders, that way any film including films about psychopathic murderers (eg Silence of the Lambs) or
child killer heroes (Nightmare on Elm Street) can be blocked out no matter
what time of day it is. Geee... how difficult is it to change one menu setting
on the decoder?

Have you ever tried using it? See how long you stay sane for. Waiting 10+ seconds for the channels to change is too much.
 
Wth is with some people?? A natural act is frowned upon, but it's ok to depict violence and killing, even in cartoons?!
 
I block language, annoying if everything is a swear word instead of actual coherent sentences.
 
No I'm not advocating porn for kids, I'm saying why make such a big stink about porn only when there are cartoons and movies which openly depict violence?
 
So who's fault was this incident anyway? DSTV, or Action X? I mean, was it scheduled to show at 8AM in the DSTV guide?
 
Ja and the same parents who complain are the same ones who scream and swear in front of their kids, smoke, drink, violent...etc etc etc. Anyways kids these days know more about xxx and violence than thier parents. Schools are vrot these days.

The only way to save your kids is to tell them the truth. Trying to hide the world away from them only makes life either a massive dissapointment or alternatively something they crave to test and experiment with.

I'm so sick of all the hypocrites in SA!!
 
I have no idea what the fuss is about. What I don't get is why people with DStv decoders, which features both parental lock AND language filtering, shift the blame to DStv just because they didn't set the unit up properly.

Another thing - this "granny" in the article saw 2 people "making love" and kept watching for it to finish for 35 minutes! :confused:

If the kids, whom she was so concerned about, wanted to watch it, the would have done so weather it was shown at 8am or a 11pm. The whole hype about porn is exaggerated - the government wants to ban it from TV, yet the same government's e-mail boxes and file servers are RIDDLED with XXX material. I know, I've seen it on uncountable occasions.

IMHO, the granny LOVED what she was seeing and was probably caught watching this flick by her 08:30 "koek-and-tea-church-flower-arrangement" pals, and now tried to get out of her tight spot by claiming she was concerned for the "younglings"

Kids thses days probably see more porn than their parents do. If they dont see it on TV while the parents are sleeping, they get it from friends who download it or copy tapes/dvds/etc. Go ahead and ask a kid where to get a copy of an album for free, or some other illegaly obtained/copied content. Ask them on which channels they can find porn, and when.
 
I don't know how the parentla lock thing works (from DsTV's side). Do they have to explicitly set the rating, or is it something that is set within the broadcast system? I mean, the film was shown by accident -would have have triggered the parental lock?

By yeah, lol at the granny who had to watch for 35 min to see if it changed. :D

The parental lock triggers based on the rating level displayed on the I-Plate. Unless they show a program that differs from that displayed on the I-Plate (which might have a different age rating), the system works and is controlled by the decoder software.

In this case the film showing and the info on the I-Plate corresponded, so the parental lock would have functioned.
