Angola bans British Airways
02/07/2007 14:25

London - Angola's civil aviation authority has rescinded British Airways' permit to fly into the southwestern African nation, a spokesperson for the airline said on Monday.

"We were informed on Friday by the Angolan CAA that it had rescinded BA's seasonal operating permit with immediate effect," BA spokesperson Richard Goodfellow said.

BA operates one return flight a week between London and Luanda.

The ban came after British authorities informed Angola's national carrier, TAAG, that it would not be allowed to fly into the United Kingdom. The European Union said last week that it was moving toward banning the Angolan carrier from EU skies, a decision that came on the same day that a TAAG jet crashed in northern Angola.

Isn't that just childish! It shows they don't take safety very seriously.

Rather than think "Gee a first world country who's level that we aspire too thinks our national carrier isn't up to standard so lets do something about it"

No we get "We'll just ban their national carrier. That will show the white racist imperialists". How typical :o

I'm sure you have stuck it to those bastards and they are feeling it. Well done.

I bet the ceo of BA is having nightmares or sleepless nights because of that ban :D

I knew someone would sneak race in the topic somewhere. Since when does a basic aviation safety issue become one about "white racist imperialists"??

Since Africa has a history of justifying acts like this using race as an excuse :o
