I got a brand spanking new 8600GT the other day, nice card, runs everything I throw at it high details etc. at 1280*1024 ( Monitors max resolution...)
Anyways, I ran it on my 300W PSU that come with my box, it's a FSP. No major problems, but every now and then the system becomes unstable, reboots etc. But this is only after quite a while.
Anywho, so I thought I would buy a new PSU, just to be safe. Got a cheap 350W one for like R250 or something. Doesn't look dodgy or anything. This was yesterday.
So I popped in the new one, fired up my pc, took a look at the voltages and all looked fine.
Then I fired up a game or two, went alright, for about an hour, then when the action starter, read there was lots to render, load from disk etc. the psu made a nice "pop" sound and there was a nice blue flash I could clearly see through my case window.
I'm not sure what would cause this to happen though, maybe it can't deliver enough power? Gets strained too much?
So today I went and got a replacement, no hassles, the guy at the shop looked quite surprised.
I thought it may be a factory error, just maybe.
Popped the new one in an hour ago, same thing happens.
The moment the pc gets very busy the power supply pops.
Okay, now here is the strange thing, it doesn't run bad on my 300W PSU, like I said, no real problems, but when I have a bit of a marathon session, it gets unstable. But still, played through the exact same scenes on my 330W PSU and it gave me no problems.
Can anyone please advise as to what may be the cause of this problem. It is definitely not an electrical fault in the house, as two other pc's were running fine at the same time.
If someone could give me an explanation for this I would be very grateful.
PS. I'm going to ask for my money back tomorrow. Are the AOpen power supplies decent? Because that is the only other ones I saw in the shops at reasonable prices.
