How do you expect a nurse or a doctor to become a reservist after a 12 hour shift? How can you honestly expect any of the engineers who are building soccer stadiums to go and do security rounds after work? All just because you are to incompetent to do the job you get well and truly overpaid to do?!!???

Maybe if I was still self employed and not helping to sort this IT mess at the Department of Home Affairs out from 7 to 4, I would have had the energy left to become a reservist, as it is I cant even stay up past 8 anymore, I just dont have the energy left...

The caliber of 
ministers we have in this country is really worrying.
Maybe Mr Nqakula will sacrifice his security detail around his person and move into the the suburbs with normal folk. He can also then join the reservists to fight crime and seeing as though he does buggerall else during the day he will be well rested and up for walking the beat.

Would you then participate in community policing initiatives? Or would you miss the daily dose of Isidingo/7de Laan/B+B. We have a community policing initiative where I live and break ins and the like have been drastically reduced. All it takes is people to vaulenteer their time and walk around the neighberhood.

Firstly, let the useless ministers do their job - then we will talk.
Until such time,I would sooner see the country reduced to the bronze age, than help this useless piece of faeces look good.
Okay, so protecting your family is dependent on some1 else. Come now? The more you are active in your surroundings, the quicker you are able to spot someone who does not belong there. Simple as that, it works.
In a country with such heavy taxation it shouldn't be necessary for people to then have to go out and police their neighbourhoods as well. Especially when the situation is caused by incompetence and corruption of the very people are suggesting this as a solution.
If we had any integrity and spine left in our executive branch of government this idiot would be turfed out on his ear before lunch. In reality tho he will probably get a nice pay increase.

If there are things outside your sphere of control, then you adjust and ensure that YOUR family is safe. Even if I'm taxed more than most places in the world, and the police force does not have the resources to patrol my neighberhood, it really does not matter.

I think they have been proven not to be up to the task. However I'm saying there are things WE can do to safeguard ourselves.
For instance, if you get together with your neighbers and discuss this, you would be suprised at how many would say let us give it a try. At the end of the day, when the payments for your house/car/furniture are made, only you feel that pain. Now after feeling that pain, I'm not about to let some lazy twat enjoy the fruits of my labour.
Thx for being honest and I tend to agree with you on all counts for what it is worth.
The public does need to get involved and engage the police in an organised manner which should make everyones lives a bit more livable.

Although I am not a doctor or nurse, I work in excess of 12 hours per day. I pay a s..t load in taxes and expect the Government to perform it's duty. What a load of bollocks.

I tried that, you would be amazed how many people opt out the moment money is mentioned. People are sick and tired of forking out more and more money for security. Burglar bars, Alarm System, Electric Fence, Armed Response, Boom, .....
Where I used to live in Glen Austin they tried that a while back. And gues what, one of the guys patrolling the street, was shot dead while he was busy patrolling, never saw the guy, show from an open field, never caught the guy.
Its not if we are not doing anything, its that the people at top will never accept that they are failing, shift the blame. Its a lot easier while you are waiting for your next fat pay check for doing nothing

Really ironic how you now complain about crime and the government not doing anything, while during Apartheid, the Africans in the townships also complained about crime and the Apartheid government also did nothing. At least you are rich and have money now, to buy security features. These Africans had to protect themselves with their bare hands.
