BIOS-Should one update it on a regular basis?

I have just checked the date on my Bios and note that the version that I have is 8 months old which lead me to wonder whether I should be checking for updates and flashing/installing them on a regular basis. Presuming one knows what you are doing,are there any benefits to doing this and is it advisable?
 
Let's say you load a new operating system and you find some weird problems, like prolonged shutdowns, boots and erradic mouse movements or keyboard errors, then it's good to update your BIOS and see if the problem goes away.

If you know what you are doing and read the guides on the manufacturers site, then it is advisable. If you don't know what you are doing, then it's not advisable.

It doesn't help checking monthly for BIOS updates as most manufacturers release updates only to support new CPU's for instance, or more hardware, so it's not a monthly occurence.

My BIOS is updated to the latest version, it's been a year and no new updates ;)
 
I'd say if you know what you're doing, go for it. I updated mine this week just because I was bored, and it actually fixed a problem I didn't know was BIOS related. The finger print scanner sometimes worked in Vista, and sometimes not, updated the BIOS and it worked perfectly... I thought it was Vista related cause it worked fine in XP.
