After many struggles and very little help on the Net I though I need to post my fix to a VERY irritating problem.

As a new and VERY loyal Mac user I ran the Software Update the other day after I have successfully installed and used my Vodafone software for my Novatel XU870. The update installed the WWAN Update which is ONLY functional on the Cingular Network (a bit daft if you think that there are other users OUT THERE...and IN OTHER COUNTRIES who do not need this update!!!)

WORD OF CAUTION: If you have not installed the WWAN update yet...DO NOT DO THIS. It erases your Express Card Driver and you cannot connect anymore!!!!

So I struggled more than O.R. Tambo in the apartheid era to get the darm update removed. At long last I found the following website which describes how to remove the update: http://jurgen.ca/2007/02/28/novatel-merlin-xu870-vs-apple-wwan-support-update-10/

Removing the update did not solve my problem completely and I also then downloaded the new Merlin driver at: http://www.novatelwireless.com/support/merlin-xu870-apple.html

I use the following settings under Internet Connect:
Account name: (leave blank)
password: (Leave blank)
Telephone number: internet (NOT: *99***1#)

That's it!

THIS then fixed the problem....so the result therefore is:

1. No more WWAN update
2. I connect without the Vodafone software...just using the normal Internet Connect.
3. I'm as happy as a pig in poo!

Hope this helps you unfortunate sods like me who ran the crazy update!!

Best!
