Sony announces PS3 price cut

Could someone from Ster-Kinekor please explain how $600 turned into R6800 Ie exchange rate above 10 rand per dollar. Am I also correct ot say that the $600 was the recomended retail price?

Will have to await some sort of Annoucement from Ster Kinekor.

As the prices reduction is effective immediately in North America, I assume that Sony are giving distributors some sort of rebate on units they have already purchased at the higher price, but not yet sold. If not, we will have to wait for Sterk Kinekor to sell all the units they already have bought first and then buy another shipment at the lower price.

Yay! Now the PS3 will be only R2000 more expensive than the Xbox, not R3000 anymore! Whoop-di-freakin-doo...
Probably closer to R2500 cheaper. SK do something wierd on their pricing, so you can't use the Exchange Rate to work things out. Probably come in at just under R6000. Assuming they give us anything at all. We have about the highest priced PS3s in the world and even then have managed a price INCREASE since launch.

I can't decide who the bigger tools are Ster Kinekor for selling PS3 @ 50% over recommended retail; or the bright sparks buying it. Not to mention the "average at best" games @R600 a pop.

*sigh*

Note to Sony/Ster Kinekor marketing people :
Even with shaite games, a PS3 for $500 x 7.5 = R3750 + SterKine CEO 10% new car bonus @R375/unit = R4100 odd will sell like hotcakes and have Microsoft wetting themselves in fear. So get your **** sorted out! FFS!

Enough ranting.

Our rip-off price is based on the European rip-off price. They also pay more than the US price. Microsoft rips them off too. XBox 360 is more expensive and so is Windows.

You have to. Only someone truly desperate would buy it now rather than waiting for the cheaper stock to appear.

Does anyone know when can we expect to see the price reductions here?
Well if it were typical, then they'd make excuses about having to sell off current stock. It has taken a while just to sell the first shipment.

despite its superior technology
Only thing I can think of is the Blu-ray drive.

I thought Sony had just denied there was going to be a price reduction.

Not that this helps s but I was in Hong Kong and the 60gb PS3 retails for around R3300, the price in SA just doesnt make sense

Sony sets different pricing for different regions, so we cant compare our prices to U.S prices.

RRP for PAL (EU) is £425 which is 5950 ZAR.

So in truth that is closer too what we should be expecting to pay with SK making a small mark up inside that 5950 ZAR.... of course we know how much SK price gouges so they took their small profit and slapped another 1k on it.
