I love how one or two U.S police offecers step out of line in the vast country that is America and the likes of SKY and BBC broadcast this all over the world as if it's major news and you guys wet yourselves.
I wonder how many officers stepped out of line in the same city as you are in the last few hours nevermind Europe or the rest of the world.

If they come charging into her home unannounced, which is not unusual, then you she is well within her rights to put them down.
In cases like this there need to be real consequences for the police when they step out of line. They should face the same criminal charges as anyone else who assaults or kills someone.

I'm not anti-american. The best gun boards are all american, and I spend a lot of time on them. In the last year or so there have been quite a few questionable incidents of this sort. None involving shotguns or anything of the sort. Seems to happen at airports, mostly. Also hardly ever makes more than the local news.
We already know that many officers here step out of line. However, at least they don't resort to beating geriatrics. As for your point on bbc etc broadcasting internationally, there was a story a few months ago about a british cop who attacked a pensioner with a baton in her own home. Hardly got a peep on the news.
Just seeing a problem that needs to be fixed doesn't make one anti-anything. You're taking the same approach old Charlie N took when he said that SAfricans who complain about crime are anti-SA whingers.

What problem? I don't see any problem relating to authoritarianism. All I see are a few individual cases of officers stepping out of line and the press blowing it all out of proportion. Difference here is there is a crime problem with proof to back it up. Where's the proof besides a few individual cases of officers stepping out of line which you will get in every country anyway
No different. If I read an article about an officer stepping out of line I don't smear the whole police force and country claiming authoritarianism

Actually it doesnt feed any need to justify Anti Americanism, it feed the need to highligh an injustice commited to a 70 Year old Woman over her garden.
Cops stepping out of line while arresting a criminal is one thing , but a woman who could easily be your mother or anybody on this forums mother, and because of a petty civil ordinance, that is the point yankee.
It is irelevant which country this happens, what it highlights is abuse of power and police brutality.

With them all wearing uniforms and shouting "Police" . . . no - I dont want to be shot thanks.
That raises an interesting point though, I wonder how easy police uniforms are to acquire, especially in SA? Would be a good, albeit disturbing, way to catch people off guard.

Note the word cops. It was one cop. If her accusations are proven true( so you can't claim brutality yet anyway) it would prove only one cop was guilty of brutality or abuse of power not the whole police force or country for that matter.
Also the offending officer no doubt will punished for the "injustice" so what more do you want?

Hm. But every couple of months or so we hear about hijackers/robbers with SAPS uniforms. They'd just have to shout 'police'. I'd be more worried in the US, though... there they wear tacticool ninja suits rather than uniforms, and they have actual training.
