So the Pakistani government got sick and tired of the radical muslims and have now gone in to mop up this mess...

According to News24 there are still 25% of the people hiding in the basements

Officials have said that many women and children were being held as human shields in the compound.

Sounds like a nice bunch of guys.

Now I ask you, how can people still support these radical muslims? Is common sense just lost on them?

Oh and I don't think it's the muslim religion itself, just look at Chris Benoit who was Christian and wiped out his family because he had problems yet I am pretty sure there are people out there praying for him anyway...

What is it that makes people ignore the blatant hypocrisy of these people?

I think there is a major difference between praying for someone and supporting them

Anyway, you are right, the muslim religion itself does not preach violence, the majority of muslims AFAIK, do not agree with the extremists, I think it has more to do with American propoganda than anything else

Think back to what you thought of Vietnamese or Russians back in the day, today it's Muslims tomorrow it's who knows
 
Yeah 'common sense" does seem lost to them. Not they are stupid though. As I said earlier that on SKY guys with links to this bunch murdered a bunch of Chinese workers. How do you explain that after all China never invaded Iraq did they :rolleyes:.

Isn't calling them radical 'Muslims' in a Muslim country redundant?

No, just because they're in a Muslim country doesn't mean that everybody is necessarily Muslim. They could be radical anything. Not likely but still possible.

Their leader is a cleric and they're holed up in a mosque. Even News24 deemed it unnecessary to point out the obvious.

At one stage they kidnapped a whole lot of Chinese "massage workers" as part of a morality campaign, is this the same group that were murdered?

Possibly but since I did not specifically quote the mosque or the cleric I thought it would be appropriate to mention their religion as it was no longer obvious unless you read the article.

Alan not sure why you brought China into this?

What I don't understand is how the Pakistani government allowed this to get so bad? Hopefully in the future they use a firmer hand with these radicals*...

I was responding to your comment "Isn't calling them radical 'Muslims' in a Muslim country redundant?" not necessarily this particular case.

Anyway GM's post was refering to these people in the artical. He was calling them what they are. Whether or not it is obvious( only to those that actualy read the link) is irrelavant. Could you imagine if people made statements leaving out what they felt was "obvious" all the time. It would to lead to a lot of convusion. Maybe not in this case but somewhere down the line.

Elsewhere, three Chinese workers were killed in Peshawar in an attack said to be linked to the unrest in Islamabad.

There is speculation that Islamic militants may be targeting Chinese people in Pakistan.

Students at the Red Mosque and its attached religious schools have been defying the authorities for several months in their campaign for Sharia law in the capital.

Security forces began their siege of the mosque not long after students there abducted seven Chinese workers they accused of running a brothel.

China swiftly condemned the Peshawar killings and told Pakistan to launch an investigation and take proper steps to protect Chinese in the country, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Besides the obvious links I also read somewhere that a lot of the subsequent action came about as a result of Chinese pressure.

They seem to be the only real threat to Musharaf, he's been quite weak politically lately too, maybe he was scared of generating more support and sympathy etc.

Yes but we're going to blow holes in the walls so people can escape (heard on the news.) Yes I'm sure most of the dead are due to the actions of the Pakistani government.

What? The pakistani government did not lock them up in a Mosque with high powered weapons. They also did not start the shooting and they are also not the people who refused to put down their weapons and leave the mosque.

I would love to hear how you can possibly defend these people.

I am not defending them. I am making a statement on hypocrisy.
