Download YouTube videos

Morning all,

What is the easiest way to download YouTube videos (for offline viewing) on the Mac OS X ... I am using Firefox, so an extension will be cool as well.

There's an extension for FF called VideoDownloader, otherwise if you go here it gives you a direct download link.
 
Sorry I dont use ff - its dead easy though in safari though.
 
Go to the page press ⌥⌘A for the activity viewer and just double click on the flv file (hint its usually the largest file).
 
For the linux/bsd users, try YouGrabber. Havent tried using FF extention in linux or in *bsd yet.
 
keepvid works with a whole bunch of video sites incl youtube and google video.

to use it, create a new bookmark in firefox with this as the location (url):

javascript:document.location='http://keepvid.com/?url='+escape(window.location);

when you are viewing a video you would like to download, just click on the bookmark.
 
I tried VideoDownloader last night. It said their site was busy, then gave an error because the video was not from a supported site - Google - so it is not so reliable unless it is my connection (possible).
 
I have a problem with VideoDownloader (or maybe I just don't understand): When you open youtube, the video starts streaming. You click on the little VD icon, and a window pops up, with a button. When you press the button, nothing happens until youtube has finished streaming the video. VD will then give you the save to disk pop-up, and start downloading the flv from their site ... so you use double the bandwidth to get the video: once for streaming, and a second time for downloading from their site.
