Vodacom lowers call costs to international visitors

People have realised how stupid it was to pay exhorbitant amounts just for the privilege of talking to someone only a mile away just because their account was registered in the UK or elsewhere. I'd like to know how much 'extra' Vodacom paid to have this ability anyway.
Also if you travel abroad with a Vodacom phone, you pay an additional amount of R17.50 for EVERY CALL you make AND receive! Quite rediculous ...
R3,50 / minute?
That cann't be right or fair as charges are different for different countries.
Then for the UK it's cheaper to call them when they're in the UK than when they are here!
It's already cheaper to call the UK during Peak time than it is to call my wife on the mobile round the corner !!!! (from landline fone anyway).

very clever, very nice, well done Vodacom; Considering prepaid is R3.60 per minute (at least it was when I was on it years ago)
Hmmm, if you dial the international number without the #0#, Vodacom must have to route the call via the international provider and back, hence the high cost.
This #0# obviously gets the 'hidden local cell number' the cell received based on it's international number, and calls the local number instead, presumably bypassing the international cell company all together...
So in fact, they should simply charge us standard local cell rates

So in fact, they should simply charge us standard local cell rates
The Only bennifit i can see is that the person been called doesn't have to pay for the return leg of the call from their home country back to SA - good for the traveller - no bennifit (if not more expensive in some cases) for the locals!

only if you use the 'vodafone passport' service, i believe. if you don't, then the costs vary depending on the country that you are in

Are international calls less than R3.50 per minute to a cell phone? Sheuw, ok, I thought it would have been much higher! I'm used to paying my 9c/minute using sip - but that's just me.
I believe so - althaugh I've never checked my bill. It's a flat rate to the country in question (eg UK about R1,50), regardless of where the person is in the country (nationally ie your call lands at london exchange there is no extra cost if the call is in londen or routed up to Liverpool), what network (unlike us they have more than one) and what mobile network (analogue or GSM).
SO I'm led to believe - could be wrong tho. ANyone else know?

Looks like there is a difference.
For UK : To a landline it's 95c/min and a mobile R2/min.
So R2 is the telkom strech. If you don't fone them from your home phone while they are roaming here, you would need to add the extra charge from vodacom to telkom. and combine the 2 prices.
In the end it isn't much off the R3.50 inanycase !!
The only person saving is the guy roaming (and be sure vodacom makes sure sombody is paying so it's probably us) !!
