SA shows good governance - WB

About time the international community focused on SA in a positive light..

Its the start of good things.. going from strength to strength

The former head of China's State Food and Drug Administration, Zheng Xiaoyu, has been executed for corruption, the state-run Xinhua news agency reports.

He was convicted of taking 6.5m yuan ($850,000; £425,400) in bribes and of dereliction of duty at a trial in May.

I wish our corrupt officials and criminals will be executed for once. Am vindictive today because a girl in a security complex next to mine was raped and stabbed. Kill criminals who remove themselves from a civil society.

3% improvement is marginal. It is statistically insignificant, it might even be a sampling error.

Poor girl. :mad: The officials and criminals certainly won't be missed by anybody decent.
 
Not to be negative here but the WB isn't exactly known for having good governance and being corruption free it self, is it?
 
gah - just a spinoff from removing Shaik from the picture - he probably accounted for 6% all by himself.

Still, there is a world of difference between "corruption" and "incompetence".
 
I would love to know how the WB defines corruption thought, because I had a look at that report and they give some wishy washy definition.
 
also it may be an improvement in one area, or a shift in the way the reporting is done or anything of the sort.

If you were to ask me... corruption is probably worse now than it used to be...

And you know this because, if you are going to make a statement please back it up with fact - the Worl bank governance report negates your rather foolish idea
 
I am actually putting forth an opinion, and the World Bank report just happens to not be very forthcoming with HOW it gets to that figure.... so it is definately taken with a large packet of salt tbh.

And wait.. you're all for the world bank now?.. I thought they were an evil part of the Westen world....
 
After SA fell to the bottom of the list in service delivery, you probably find corruption is lower as a direct result of the difficulty of actually finding someone in office, and awake, so that you can bribe them....

My assumption is based on me actually LIVING in this country, and dealing with this guavamint instead of living in washington and ASKING how things are...

Suppose we could argue we've had good governance for 13 years (compare bob or other african elections, for instance Nigeria.) Problem is Mbeki supports bob and nigeria (and sudan!) Yes, good governance (it could be so much worse.) But consider if this is good then it should be so much better (highest murder, rape, bank robberies, theft, corruption, non-delivery) do not equate to good governance in many books.

I bet if the findings of the report painted a negative picture of things, you'd probably be very happy to accept the world bank's opinion. No questions.
 
Actually no i probably wouldn't...

I have this thing against reports that don't explain HOW they reached their conclusions...
