SABC seeks soccer rights freeze

Lmao!!!

SABC News International will be officially launched by President Thabo Mbeki tomorrow and will be broadcast from the corporation’s headquarters in Johannesburg with correspondents filing from both home and abroad.

In common with other players in an increasingly crowded market, the channel will have bureaus in major centres of power such as Washington, London and Brussels, as well as less prominent capitals such as Nairobi, Kinshasa and Dakar.

Now this is a major waste of money! It is just a bragging tool. It is a dead loss from the get go and guess who foots the bill?!!?? Yes, you and me!

The fact that Multichoice is pumping Big Bags of Cash into a sport that dearly needs it, does not occur to them.

Never mind that more games will be available to the general public and the standard of the broadcasting will go up (we might even be able to broadcast 2010 soccer in HD now).

Much like a Tyrant above our border, the SABC has no perspective.
 
This sucks.
If SABC wins this whole PSL issue, we will be subjected to a poor quality again and again. I hope SS does not lose this, coz I believe we will see good quality in commentary (Mark Glesson), cameras, and all that.
 
And given the speed of the legal process this should be settled in what? 18 months? That'll work for everyone won't it... :rolleyes:
 
Bwahahaha, and SABC wake up a month after they've already lost the deal. Way to go management, performance bonuses all round!
 
Sports broadcasting rights are a serious business and worth a shed load of cash, if you don't want to pay why should you get it for free, i recall an article in SA rugby magazine about the same issue, the sabc valued rugby broadcast rights at 30 million over 5 years, Supersport eventually bought those same rights for the 30 million annually over 5 years.

This has been going on for some time, and the PSL may have jumped the gun when they awarded the rights to Supersport. Not that I think that the SABC has some kind of divine right to broadcast soccer in this country, or that Supersport won't be an improvement all round, but just that the PSL may not have been acting appropriately when they awarded the rights while engaged in arbitration.

FWIW, I look forward to seeing Supersport's broadcasts, and think that the cash injection is great for loccal soccer and a much fairer reflection of the value of local football.
 
Simple.... local soccer will either

SABC with local soccer = stagnate/regression
DSTV with local soccer = Progression.

Its business, and in business money rules.
 
sabc won't make it

:)There is no way that the sabc will get it hands on the PSL deal. if sabc wins this arbitration then the childish soccer commentary made by their analysts will be our daily bread. Supersport must atleast strike a deal with etv.
 
Apart from the soccer dabacle, can anyone take a news department headed by Snuki, seriously.
What we'll get is the same partisan drivel that SABC new sends out now.
