The perfect game of checkers ends as a draw, Canadian computer scientists reported on Thursday.

The team at the University of Alberta said they had "solved" checkers, the 5,000-year-old popular board game also known as draughts. Their computer program, Chinook, spent more than 18 years playing out the 500 billion possible positions, they report in the journal Science.

"This paper announces that checkers is now solved: Perfect play by both sides leads to a draw," Jonathan Schaeffer and colleagues wrote in their report.

I always knew this. Which is why CHESS is the only board game that is mathematically infinite...no dice...no luck...just pure calculation and when you cannot calculate anymore... creativity.

Hi Kompete

While Chess is far more difficult to solve (far more possible positions), it is not infinite. It is only a time constraint (or processing power for that matter) which stops it from being solved as well. Having said that it is indeed a wonderful game...

So who plays chess better man or computer? Last I remember it was man who beat that IBM Blue thing, this was some time back though.
 
So, how would the perfect game of strip poker end? We all leave with just out socks?
