Storm erupts over office porn at Cell C

Never seen more porn than at a government office...

Seriously, though, what is it about management and email porn? Happens in every company, it seems.
 
Why don't people realize that everything at the office can/is monitored? I mean it's not like that insight requires an IT degree.
 
Although I am the first to shout "free speech" and wotnot. The fact is if you send...it will be forwarded.That is the risk you take everytime you send a risky email. Some people just don't find it entertaining. Recently I recieved an horrendous photo of a person dragged behind a vehicle. I got it at lunch time and almost blew chunks. I always like to read my junk/joke emails while I have my lunch but this day I nearly puked. I was more sad that the poor victim had been further victimized by having his injury picture sent out to the world. Anyhoo, I reported the "sender's"!
 
I agree with BTech.

Not all people have the same taste.

Others have a problem with pornographic material, and others find it simply disgusting. If you send pr0n pics to these kinds of people, then you're trampling on their rights, and deserves the fallout.
 
No way is Cell C going to admit that senior manager receive / send porn emails, judging from their track record, you can draw your own conclusions. @ The Librarian - sure some might find it offensive and others not but the bottom line as I see it is that at work you have a job to do and this definitely crosses a few boundaries. In your personal time on your own pc you can do whatever you want, but at work you have to keep up to some professional standard and that definitely does not bring porn into the picture.
 
despite Cell C being a signatory to an industry agreement to clamp down on the “irresponsible use of adult content” to protect children.

That's a slippery slope. Why shouldn't we then protect everyone from anything that might hurt their delicate feelings?

Porn is everywhere. And in most parts of the western world it is now absolutely mainstream. My two cents: Get over it, South Africa.

Blame broadband. But it's inevitable.

Seriously, it's exactly that attitude that you will bemoan when someone violates your rights.
If you think free speech is a must, then what about the freedom of hearing, not having to put up with what you regard as smut and find offensive? Since when is your right more important than the next?

Correct - that's what the woman was complaining about - having to screen those mails. What I fail to see is why people have to do this in business hours on company money. Are they really that desperate that they can't wait to get home?
 
How many Viagra Spams has anyone got without asking ? Anyone can send porn0graphic images to a company director.. even subscribe them to a list.

Is the manager liable for the pr0n then?
 
Obviously steps must be taken to prevent spam / porn from getting through the corporate network. Cell C is just trying to sweep things under the carpet instead of making constructive decisions to stop such behaviour in future.

If he is sending, recieving and browsing in office hours and the company policy clearly says you aren't allowed to, yes.
