Broadband technology is here, but service ethic isn't

Seriously, how can Telkom be blamed for iBurst's crappy service and over saturation of their towers?

Okay, that is understandible, but what? Telkom is responsible for killing all the Dinosaurs?

*Thinks about it....*

No, S.A's telecoms is messed up because of TELKOM!

You cant just go around blaming Telkom when government has a 38% share in this problem as well.
I agree with what the writer had to say w.r.t government selling their shares in Telkom and then letting them figure the ins and outs of a competitive environment out by themselves in much the same way that 98% of other businesses have to.

Best article I've read in a long while. Pretty much nails it right on the head with what is so wrong in this country. (Apart from lack of international bandwidth.)

Telkom represents the common denominator in the ICT sector.

Regardless of it's monopoly status and what the "competitors" are saying, it's behaviour and complete lack of service trickles into the whole of the SA ICT sector. So what becomes as acceptable behaviour to Telkom, pretty much becomes acceptable to every one else in the sector (volume caps anyone?).

That is the status quo that needs to be broken.

And I think the cellular providers such as MTN and Vodacom are doing their fair share of that, but still not nearly enough.

My two cents.

@tiredofwaiting sure Telkom is the common problem to all. If Telkom was able to provide much cheaper bandwith / leased lines then the other service providers would be able to spend more money on their own towers thus reducing the said congestion.
