Is SABC really representing the whole of South Africa?

I’ve been watching SABC (not that I had a choice) since I was born, I think.
But my problem is I think it is not representing the country a a whole. Everything on TV is about Gauteng, KZN, Western Cape, and almost Eastern Cape.

The news, in fact all programmes are about Soweto, JHB, Durban, PE, CapeTown.
I knew Gauteng before I could even come to it. I haven’t been to Western Cape or KZN, but I think I know those provinces more than the ones I’ve been to.

When was the last time you heard or watched anything from Northern Cape? The only thing I know about that province is Kimberly and its diamonds- that's all. I’m from Limpopo and the only thing on TV that almost represents something from there is this Muvhango programme on SABC 2. I don’t watch it though.

Am I right or am I right?

The sabc (and it will be similar in other countries) will primarily show news stories of the main country cities. Those towns/cities in south africa that are possibly looked at as lesser 'importance', will no doudt always be secondry, unless something unique happens, extraordinary, or if the news in the 'main cities' is rather dull.

Your comment makes a lot more sense than that of (DmZ)Wrecky .
Anyway, someting unique, as you said, should be done so thta it will be reflective of SA.

Excellent reason why they should speed up the legislation and process on starting community tv

I agree. I'm from the Free State and hardly hear anything about it, unless someone is appealing a court case in Bloem or something. But I say "no news is good news", we only hear if something goes horribly wrong.

:D
Yeah, actually I think it's near impossible to represent the entire country... hence I tend to agree with the community license comment of Gothan. Some choice would be good.

Limpopo part of South Africa ? :D (Just kidding)

There was another show on sabc2 called taxi to and they travelled all over the Limpopo province in a taxi interviewing the folks that live around there.

I pay my TV Licence and get absolutely no return for it. The only thing I use my TV for is watching DVD's or TV Series I download from the internet.

Local television is crap
