My uncle asked me if he should go with iBurst and I said that I know very little about them but that I will come read some feedback and threads on this forum. My word!! Are they really so ****? Just complaints and unsatisfied customers it seems.

These are not "just complaints" it's real very real and anyone becoming an iburst customer after reading these threads deserves all the problems he is going to get sooner or later.

Tell your uncle to stay clear of iburst or you may as well shoot him in the head right now and get done with it.

I told him that I wouldn't touch iBurst with his if the threads in this section are anything to go by. IIRC they had quite a good rep not so long ago (6 months or so). Looks like their service has gone a little pear shaped. Oh well, I've told him to stick to his VC pp data bundles.

Been considering whether to post anything or not - eventually caved & decided to post.

As a radio technology, iBurst is quite an efficient technology, so that is not the problem.

The problem IMO with iBurst in SA, is the company formerly known as WBS that runs the only iBurst network in SA, and there are many issues: billing & blackmailing customers that want to cancel by claiming they still owe iBurst money - lots of posts about this; draconian shaping policies; coverage [been improving but not sufficiently]; ridiculous 40MB/month products - albeit inexpensive to start with but wait until you've used up your 40MB if you're lucky in the first 5 minutes - don't know what unlimited VoIP means though when you've used your 40MB; a sustained lack of iBurst representation in this forum - despite many promises in the past to have an iBurst representative here; iBurst SA ignoring a recent ruling from the Advertising Standards Authority [www.asasa.org.za] to withdraw misleading adverts.

I've also seen a lot of iBurst modems up for sale in the Classifieds section, so there appears to be download spiral.

Perhaps it would be better if iBurst's frequency gets reallocated to Vodacom to run WiMax...

Hmmm, IC what you said above about the iburst technology is basically what I've said in many of my posts, the problem is not with the system it is with the company.......

.....but since the company is what customers have to deal with I feel that we are in our right to warn as many people here in the forum or face to face...........I have even gone so far as to NOT sell my modem to any poor sucker and by doing so I'm losing a fair bit of money on the now redundant modem.
It just does not feel right to pass it onto someone else who will more than likely have problems with that company somewhere down the line.

customer services? does "Is your MTU set to 1352" constitute customer service?
