In search of a new anti-virus program...

The Norton Anti-virus(:sick:) expires tomorrow :D:D:D I'm looking for recommendations :D I would like a Anti-virus program that detects and stops programs from using the internet(Message pops up and asks the user if they would like this program to access the internet) and also is light on the system resources but provides a good watch for viruses :D:D:D

I would recommend: AVG Free anti virus and ZoneAlarm firewall. Both free and light
 
Grab a copy of Zone Alarm Pro Security Suite . You can test it for 15 days. (You might even be able to revive it for longer operation :D if you know what to do). For AntiVirus it uses the Kaspersky engine but seems to be better than the standalone.
 
At the moment, BitDefender seems to be ahead of the rest - both it's anti-virus and internet security suites regularly top the charts of most comparison reviews.

But I'm not too sure about it, haven't had any experience with it.

I'm using Nod32 at the moment (switched from AVG) and it's awesome - light on resources and picks almost everything up, including stuff that AVG couldn't detect. Basically I'd say choose between Kaspersky and Nod32.

Avast: The one and only,the best.Register free on their site with free updates.

AVG Free anti virus: Too much hassles and popups.

ZoneAlarm: Perfection

All are free as mentioned.
 
Maybe it's just me, but Zonealarm used to really irritate me by popping up for every little thing.

Also bear in mind the issue of false positives - if an AV gives constant pop-ups about viruses being detected, it doesn't necessarily mean that a virus was detected. More often than not it's a false positive, which can become rather annoying.

With Nod32 I can use the windows firewall (*gasp* :eek:), and still feel safe. It's that good!

Kaspersky is excellent in terms of what it does, but it's scan speeds kinda puts it in the middle of the pack.

No firefox blocks pop-up adverts, he wants something that gives a warning when an application is trying to use his internet connection without his consent.

Pros:
Nothing more than any any other AntiVirus

Cons:
Impossible to remove from your computer

Warning: Once this program is downloaded it is on your computer forever. Unless you are a computer wiz, or you wipe your hard drive and start from scratch, your system will never operate properly again. I have nothing but error issues, blue screens and bitdefender messages that continually popup even after deleting the program. This company actually sent me an email stating that if all else fails, you will have to format your hard drive! I see that I am not the only one that has experienced this issue.

Can't go wrond with NOD32. Avast being free is a great option too, it even lets you change it's skin which is a nice touch but unnecessary.

My recommendations would be Anti-Vir (free), ClamWin (free) and Nod32 (commercial).

I take it NOD32 is not free.... can't seem to find anything on their site. As mentioned AVG has been working for me but the constant lengthy in your face update process is starting to irritate me..
Will try AVAST for a while.
