at the do website, it stated R490 for installation(includes labour and equip) and then R240 per month for wimax rental.
And its on the same domain as ADSL so u can use any ISP of ur choice.
Other provider of wimax would be mweb and neotel? But dont think they came up with a package yet, since neotel hasnt started and mweb is still trialing.

Month to Month
Is it possible to by your own Wimax Equipment and Go month to Month like ADSL. Is there a "Wimax Self Install"
In other words, your own equipment and Telkom Account. What does the Required equipment Cost
Anntena equivelent of ADSL Line/Router/Bridge Device with a Ethernet port
I Plan on connecting to a IpCop Linux Firewall with Crossover cable then WRT54G internally to a Couple of PC's and Wireless Laptops.

Firstly R240 is the month to month cost. If you bought the equipment it would cost you more than R8000. Telkom don't provide a Broadband router like ADSL just the "line" per se.
I see nothing wrong with your plan to use IpCop but you will not even need the WRT54G as IpCop can do PPPOE ? also check out SmoothWall and monowall.
Wimax month to Month
At the Moment, my ADSL authentication is done on my IPCOP Firewall.
The Firewall Red Interface has a crossover to a MicroCom ADSL Router with single ethernet port. This is in Bridged mode.
The Green Interface is connected by Crossover cable to the WAN port of the WRT54G which is used as a Switch to UTP cabled PC's and Wireless to Laptops.
From a Wimax point of View, I would just switch over,and change the IP settings on the Red Interface. Should be easy and I see no Issues.
Questions are this.
Does telkom or other (Mweb) restrict you to the type of Wimax CPE you can use, (obviously their own) or can you buy your own. Secondly, must it be restricted to Alvarion or can i use any other WIMAX equipment.
If I buy the CPE now R8000, will I then be able to switch to NeoTel Wimax later, or are all the Wimax providers trying to lock everyone into a two year contract. This limits choice. My ADSL contract is a month to month and I bought my own ADSL router.

Yes the device is configured on to thier ATM network. No you cannot buy your own.
Why would you want to buy your own the only money you loose is the R400 install ?
There is no contract ?

I assumed that there was a 2 year contract like the ADSL Environment. So used to Telkom.
So what you are effectively saying is that I can go Wimax on month to month after paying for the installation, and when I cancel, I presume that Telkom will then just recover the equipment.
As Wimax on same realm as ADSL, I would be able to use OpenWeb etc

WiMax is just a connectivity type, its the same as a 512kbps ADSL line with out the copper?
Bandwidth is purchased seperately?
Who do you believe Telkom guy or Me ?
