Any way of getting around packet-filtering?

So our IT dept. has implemented packet-filtering: is there anyway of getting around this? And no, it is not only facebook they've blocked. Among others (remember this because of bandwidth abuse):

1. Wikipedia
2. Hotmail, Gmail
3. SA Rugby
4. IOL & News24
5. Premierleague.com
6. Money Web etc.

Our IT dept has gone totally mad...and the irony is the internet speed has not increased significantly to the "allowed" websites. Also the head of the IT dept. is spreading propaganda to the teachers. One of our teachers claim that the school can only block a "pool" of websites and not specific ones; which I know for sure is BS!. Also the school logs the Top 50 websites and if the IT head does deem it educational, she blocks the whole lot.

So please if anyone knows how to get around packet-filtering please tell me. Yes, we've tried proxies, she blocks everyone single one she sees us using. 'Revenge' on this person (she is most narrow-minded, thank-me-for-everything person I've ever met) would be sweet

Are you sure it's packet filtering and not just site blacklisting?
If it is then you could prbly get around it by using the actual ip's of the sties rather than their dns names?

Check you hosts file to see if sites are blocked there

Buy her a bottle of wine or something and ask nicely.

Yeah, I was going to suggest using one's own cellphone & notebook to access the internet...

I do have DSL at home, however I do have a 1h45min break. I suppose using a cellphone won't be a bad idea.

yup. I use a HSDPA phone at work, and I have a 500mb data bundle. Now I can MyADSL at work

I often sit with my cellphone and read articles online when i'm bored at work...
