Makro have a special at the moment
Canon 400D with kit lens 18-55
Canon ip3300 printer
Set extra cartridges
2gb CF memory card
Set of photo paper
Corel Paintshop Pro software
Price R7999 - damn, this looks so enticing. Replacement for my 300D? What do you photo fundies say about the 400D compared to my old 300D?

Also the Corel software suite looks nice, whats the price on that? Dont know what version it is though.

Nice bundle, I got mine 350D with a printer and a flash from Makro some time back. As mentioned in Bwana's lens thread the only thing I don't like about the newer Canons is they're alot smaller than the 300D. You might want to go hold it before you buy it.

Seen that bundle at a lot of places over the past couple days. If you're worried about the size of it get the battery grip - it adds plenty of bulk to it :D

I'm loving the 400D - I'd even buy another as a spare if I didnt have such a long wishlist already. :o

Is the 400 the same size as the 350D? - a friend at work has one and it will take some getting used to if I decide to buy - maybe I should wait - anyone know when Canon will bring out another > R10G DSLR?

Yeah - same size at the 350D.

There's always going to be something new coming out - how long are you prepared to hold off for?

i upgraded my 350d to a 400d when it came out last year. I initially thought the 350d was good enough but when i saw my friends 400d i decided to upgrade only because of the bigger lcd screen on the back. it was very difficult to judge if a picture is cool on the smaller screen. I am very happy with my 400d but the pictures are comparable to the 350d even though there is a 2mp difference.

That extra 2mp was the main reason why I chose it over the less expensive 350D.

Yeah - same size at the 350D.

The 300D is working pretty nice atm so its no big rush... I looked around and I can get the 400D body for R7599 at Foto Digital. I have lenses that I can use on it and the kit lens will be a waste at this stage. Re the bundle, I don't really want that printer but the Photoshop Pro software looks enticing.

Ahhh Christmas bonus in 3 months time - will look then. BTW, my 300D has the battery grip and its massive with that on- of course the battery grips are not interchangeable :(

Will place a classified when I'm ready to get rid of the 300D..

Look again ;)

How much you want for your 300D? :)

Makro's bundles are always well priced. At Cats its just the standard kit for 8999 ... unless Canon gives us a special ... because Makro doesn't actually make the bundle themselves, canon does.

The 400D is a nice camera ... but is a lot smaller than the 300d, but I find it more comfortable. The screen is really awesome though, but they have gotten rid of the little lcd that shows you your stats ... and now the big lcd shows the stats. What they have done is put an infrared sensor, so that when you look through it, it switches off the lcd and when you take it away from your eye, it switches it back on ... so you can see your stats.

What lenses have you got ... if you only have the standard kit, it might be well worth looking at Sony ... thier camera kills the Canon ... one of the other guys at the shop is a photographer, and what he could do with a Sony A100 and sigma 170-500mm lens, he needed a canon 30d with a 100-400 L series lens to reproduce ... for once, sony did something awesome in the camera world.

Look again ;)

Ousshh - me reads what me wants.... !!! Paintshop Pro... Got that already. - Damn, how can I make a mistake like that..?

Hang in there :p

I see the Cmos sensor on the 300D is slightly larger than the 350 and 400D - probably not too much of an issue due to the higher pixels on the 400 - am I assuming correct here?

Unfortunately i just spent R4g on 2 lenses for the Canon so a Sony is not an option at this stage. Thanks for the update on the 400D - I have not looked at it in the shop yet (too scared, I have a terrible impulse buying streak and not having a missus to keep me in tow it can get out of hand).

Does that use of the LCD not eat batteries? but then I assume the 400D is more power friendly than the older 300D.

Slightly larger but considering the age difference I'd sooner put that down to advancement in technology. Obviously you're also cramming in a lot more pixels on that slightly smaller sensor.

I actually think it uses less unless you sit looking at pictures on it the whole time because it has a power saving featuare of turning it off after a couple of seconds ... and then you push a button or move your hand infront of the infrared sensor. And then you don't have that other little lcd which is always on.

Go to www.dpreview.com and check out what consumers think ... do a side by side comparison and you can see whats changed. If you were going from a 350d I'd say wait another couple of year or so till the next one comes out ... but you have a 300d and there are some significant improvements. If I'm not mistaken your camera uses the Digic I processor. The 400D uses the Digic II processor.

OK, enough now... :)

*/Me increasing overdraft at Standard Bank online....:D

Go on - at least go have a look at it, not like you have to buy it. ;)

Busy reading the DPreview now;)... (and Foto Digital at Kollonade have bodies in stock - R7699 (I can twist their arm for a discount)
