S-Video out showing black&White on my TV

Hi all, I connected my laptop to my tv to watch some dvd's on my tv via my laptop. Everything is fine, but it's showing black & White on my TV. Where can the problem be? I Tried every setting on my laptop I can think of, video hardware acceleration, image quality, everything. What can I do? Can it be that the Graphics of my laptop is too poor?
 
Make your TV is set to the same output as your laptop output - usually it would be PAL here in SA.
 
Try a different cable, yes I actually had the problem once and by simply exchanging the cable the problem was resolved
 
It's unlikely that it's the cable. Just make sure that both your GFX card and your TV are set on PAL-I and you should be sorted.
 
as DarKWateR said check the s-video connector / cable i've got two that look identical but with one the picture is black and white the other one color on the same pc / screen card and settings
 
Most likely problem:
PAL TV, NTSC output from PC.
Solution: Change settings of PC and/or TV

Second most likely problem:
Damaged S-video cable or connectors.
Solution: Replace cable.
 
Hi all, thanks for all the help. I dont think my cable is the problem, cause I used it on my dad's pc, and everything was fine. The laptop's graphics is ATI Radeon express 200m, with 128mb memory. And both the laptop and tv was set to palI. I think maybe the laptop's graphics can't handle it, or am I wrong?
 
If you've got a multimeter, do a continuity test on each one of the pins. I had the same problem did the check and found one of the pins were dead.
 
I have the same problem with my laptop (ATI radeon 9600 moility) and two out of three TV's at home (ie workes fine with the one) also tried all the settings different cables etc. It seem to be a compatibility problem with certain ati card and certain TV's
 
are you plugging it into an svideo port on the tv? or are you using a scart adapter that has an svideo and composite and audio port on it, and then plugging it into a scart port on the tv?

are you using the latest drivers for the card?
 
Yip, all the latest drivers for the graphics, and I tried the s-video on the tv, but it wouldn't show, so I used a s-video that have on the one end a s video plug, and on the other end a normal ( think they call it rca ) plug. Then for the audio I used another cable from the laptop to tv, which work fine.
 
I had the same problem twice...and I also got a 200m radeon express on my laptop which i brought from overseas.

The problem isnt pal or which ever...well mine wasnt. The first time I had the problem was when I brought an adapter to change the s-vid connection to RCA...and the guy who sold it to me said it would result in black&white in some non-compatible devices because it lacks this certain resistor and I should buy the whole cable and not just the adapter..
I was skeptical so I brought it anyways and it worked well on my old kyro 2 card and 9250...but my X200m on my laptop turned out black and white.

Ok the second time was when my dvd was connected to the tv...to those dvd connections at the back...it became black and white again...but i just simply unplugged the green one called "Y" and colors back again.

When I bought the laptop the specs said S-Video out, so I suppose the card supports s video out. But if I understand correct, what Nameite is telling me is that My card will turn it black & white. But as I said before, I used the same cable before on another pc, and it worked fine. The tv have a s video input, but I dont get it to show. What must I change on the tv to make it show?
 
There is a known bug in Nvidia cards when detecting tv outputs it may sometime turn down color settings to zero which outputs grayscale. Simply go into the advanced settings (if you have an nvidia card) and turn up the "heat"...
