Hi,

My steam account got hacked (ok, lets all take that moment to laugh at me ;) ) the guy didnt change anything, he just likes using my counterstrike source...now ive changed passwords,email & secret question and this guy can still log on. I've scanned for spyware & keyloggers and nothing...ive changed my email address's password.

In the end I created another account and added my original account to chat so i can talk to this guy the next time he logged on. He told me it was just a misunderstanding and that 1 of my friends gave him the details (of which i pointed out to him that they didnt have my details) he was then able to type out my passwords to me (since i had changed it a few times)...

Now im confused, how is he still able to gain access to my account? and how can i prevent him?

Wow, he's probably just very skilled.

The best solution would be most likely to ask him politely how he got the info and that he shouldn't access it anymore. Hackers like these are prideful and have egos the size of an elephant, so praise him a little bit, play it like a shrink ;)
 
only firewall i have is windows but im guessin that wont be much of a challenge to a hacker :P and even if he did have access to my pc, its not like the password is stored in my steam folder....is it? :P when i spoke to the guy i asked how he keeps gettin my password and he said my friend keeps telling him but i haven't told my friend the password so i know he's lying..
 
He's messing with you s1ght, so don't worry about him, Make sure you have a good firewall however, if you're running XP, I'd recommend Comodo or Zonealarm, "your friend" is probably your Windows Installation.
 
Dumb question but you sure it is your SteamID and the oke is not just using your nick?
 
Sounds like he may have a key logger or some such on your PC.
I would suggest getting process explorer or something similar (hijack this).

Process explorer is by far the easiest thing to use, as it's basically like Task Manager on steroids: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx

Hijack this is aimed more at finding spyware etc, but it should still tell you if there is anything funny loaded. You can get it here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php

Just be warned, it's not that easy to use.
 
I still wonder how he got your account details in the first place... Did he phish them from you or did he just suddenly start using your account? :confused:
 
Reinstall windows, and put a proper firewall up before you reconnect to the net, then rechange all your passwords.

If he has compromised your machine, the only way to be sure you are safe is a complete reinstall.
 
the one day one my friends on steam said i was online (we were talking on msn) but i wasnt on steam, i changed my password then, a while after it happened again and this time he was in cs source.

I am in windows XP atm, would it help if i went into vista (currently installed on seperate HDD) and changed password there?
 
Chances are both vista and XP are not safe anymore. Google for Snoopfree Privacy Shield. That should catch all keyloggers, but you'll still have to format cause it might not be a keylogger.

I'm not to familiar with Steam, but if possible, don't let it remember the password. And get a bloody firewall.
 
Mabey a freind got hold of your Info? IMO steam account are realy hard to hack...
 
This is the kind of thing that makes me wonder why i bought an original :p
 
Could be someone at your ISP...but unlikely. Who is yor ISP and how do you connect? Do you use real passwords or a phrase found in a dictionary? Very odd...
 
Iburst :P & I use passwords with characters,numbers,letters,caps,small letters :p can't make it too easy for those hacker people ;)
